Benjamin Sesko: Decision reached on Man Utd, Chelsea target after Salzburg striker hatches Haaland-style plan

RB Salzburg striker Benjamin Sesko

Man Utd and Chelsea have learned their fate after a report from Austria detailed what the future holds for RB Salzburg striker, Benjamin Sesko.

The 19-year-old Slovenian is quickly making a name for himself in Austria. Sesko plays primarily at centre-forward for RB Salzburg and notched 10 goals and seven assists across all competitions last season.

Those exploits at such a young age attracted the attentions of Manchester United and Chelsea.

Per the Athletic, United could in fact have signed Sesko for just £2.5m when he was 16. His current valuation is now around the £50m mark.

Sky Sports stated United don’t value the player quite that highly, though claimed whether to pursue a move or not was being discussed at Old Trafford.

However, according to Sky in Austria, Sesko will not be changing clubs this summer.

They reported he will remain in Salzburg for at least one more season and the player is plotting an Erling Haaland-style career path.

Haaland too developed his game at Salzburg before hitting the big time with Borussia Dortmund. Sesko is seemingly content to remain where he is for now before making the big step up in 2023.

Sky Austria reporter, Marko Stankovic, said: “According to our information, Sesko wants to stay in Salzburg for another year so that he can make the leap like an Erling Haaland.

“That’s Sesko’s plan. Next year at the latest we will talk to him about a really good transfer.”

Another year at Salzburg best for Sesko

Still a teenager, Sesko must ensure he gets regular minutes to ensure his development isn’t stunted.

Salzburg is obviously the best place for that to happen, especially after selling another member of their forward line – Karim Adeyemi – to Dortmund this summer.

Whether he can follow in the footsteps of Haaland, only time will tell.

Aside from the Salzburg connection, the Slovenian does share another similarity with the Man City hitman. Sesko is also six-foot four inches tall and once he fills out physically, will give defenders nightmares.
