Man Utd transfer news: John Murtough meeting successful as bid ready for striker Benjamin Sesko

Red Bull Salzburg star Benjamin Sesko

Manchester United are reportedly ready to submit a bid for Red Bull Salzburg striker Benjamin Sesko after Red Devils chief John Murtough held a transfer meeting last week.

Sesko is one of the attackers under consideration at Manchester United amid their need for a new striker. Even if Cristiano Ronaldo stays at the club, a long-term replacement is required as he is now 37 years old.

Newcastle and Tottenham are supposedly keeping tabs on Sesko’s development. But Manchester United are the only Premier League club to have made an approach so far.

According to the Manchester Evening News, United’s director of football Murtough met with the player’s agent on Wednesday July 20.

Murtough’s job was to discover if Sesko is open to signing for United either this summer or next. Sesko’s representative, meanwhile, is aiming to whip up interest in the 19-year-old.

It seems the transfer talks were successful as Erik ten Hag’s side are reportedly close to making an offer to Salzburg.

As per Italian journalist Rudy Galetti, United will soon submit an official bid for Sesko. However, Galetti doesn’t reveal how much it will be worth.

The reporter provides a bit of insight into Salzburg’s transfer stance. He states the Austrian club would like to keep Sesko for another campaign before allowing him to go next summer.

Benjamin Sesko starts new season well

There are several reasons for this. First of all, Sesko is set for a big campaign after registering two goals in his first two appearances of the new season.

Having him up front will be a massive help for Salzburg as they aim to keep hold of the league title and win the domestic cup once again.

There is also a financial factor at play. Right now, Salzburg could sell the Slovenia international for a decent price.

But if he improves on the 10 goals he managed last season, then Salzburg will be able to up their valuation. This could result in them receiving more than £25m from United for Sesko.

United fans would probably like their club to bring in a striker with more experience than Sesko. But the teenager has huge potential and is following in the footsteps of Erling Haaland.

United made a move for Haaland during his time at Salzburg, only to lose out to Borussia Dortmund. They might have learned from this failure and will resultantly pursue Sesko at all costs.

The striker’s tender age means he has plenty of time to emerge into one of Europe’s best. Plus, he could learn from Ronaldo at United until the Ballon d’Or winner retires.

Meanwhile, a legendary United figure has reportedly met with Ronaldo amid uncertainty over the star’s future.
