Man Utd learn new price of defensive starlet as interest reignited in West Ham, Newcastle target

Benoit Badiashile, France u21, March 2021.

Man Utd have learnt the new price for defender Benoit Badiashile after reportedly reigniting their interest in the West Ham and Newcastle target.

The Red Devils made an attempt to sign France under-21 international Badiashile in the summer of 2020. Their £22million offer was turned down by Ligue 1 side Monaco, though. He has since become a regular starter after graduating from their academy.

His performances, which have been limited by injury this season, attracted both the Hammers and the Magpies.

They each made approaches in the January transfer window, with Newcastle offering £33m, but they also ended unsuccessfully.

And now The Sun claim United are back in the hunt as they look to bolster their defensive options for next season.

It will take at least £40m to make the centre-back their’s, though, as per the report.

With the competition for Badiashile’s signature growing, Monaco are said to be confident of sparking a bidding war.

Therefore, the fee to sign him could rocket past the opening bidding price.

Ralf Rangnick, who is set to move into a boardroom position at Old Trafford in the summer, is an admirer of the starlet.

He, like United, has held a long-term interest in him.

Badiashile, who is a left-footer, has only played 45 minutes of football since early November because of a hamstring problem.

He has made a total of 105 appearances for Monaco. In that time he has registered three goals and three assists.

Meanwhile, Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong has moved to distance himself from talk he could leave the Nou Camp and make a summer move to United.

United are also looking to bolster their midfield options this summer with Rangnick identifying the area as their main weakness.

With Donny van de Beek allowed to leave, questions continue to be asked over the roles of Scott McTominay and Fred in the United side.

As such, the Red Devils have been linked with a number of big-name stars.

However, it looks unlikely that De Jong will be the one to join them…
