Fernandes warns big Man Utd soft spot must not rear its head against Liverpool

Bruno Fernandes shows his frustration for Manchester United during the Premier League clash at Old Trafford against Newcastle

Bruno Fernandes has warned Manchester United that they must take all three points in the Premier League clash against Liverpool.

United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer faces another stern test of his credentials on Sunday, following mounting pressure over his future. Despite increased calls for him to get the sack, the Red Devils have kept their faith.

What’s more, United showed faith on Wednesday to come back and beat Atalanta 3-2 at Old Trafford.

That was a vital win for the club – their first in three matches following a last-gasp win over Villarreal.

They have yet to drop a point at home in the Champions League, but their Premier League form at Old Trafford is questionable. In fact, United have taken only a point from their last three such matches.

Liverpool are the next visitors to the stadium and Fernandes has warned his team-mates that they must show the desire to win silverware.

“Manchester United have to think about being the protagonist game by game,” the midfielder told TNT Sports (via Sport Witness).

“Because, let’s say that the fact that we often think ‘we want to be champions’, ‘we want to win titles’, it’s true that this club demands it.

“But we have to think that if we don’t win game by game, it’ll be difficult for that to happen.”

Zinedine Zidane interested in Man United job

Sources have said that Zinedine Zidane would be interested in the Manchester United manager job if they came to him.

Liverpool have largely struggled at Old Trafford since Jurgen Klopp took over in 2015. Indeed, the 4-2 win there in May was Klopp’s first.

Before that, the Reds came close in a 3-2 FA Cup defeat, in which Fernandes scored the winner with a free-kick.

Liverpool will travel to Old Trafford in strong form, having taken three points from Atletico Madrid’s fierce home atmosphere, and Fernandes has warned his team-mates of United’s poor recent home form.

“So now we have a very big game. We have a game where we have to win. A very important game against one of the club’s biggest rivals,” he said.

“A game where we have to win points, we haven’t won points at home for two games.

“We have to do it because in the league we’ve won a point from three games. And it’s not enough. And now we have to show that we’re here and that we’ll be in the fight.

“But to be in the fight it has to be game by game and our focus has to be Liverpool.”

United will still be without Raphael Varane for Sunday’s match, but Marcus Rashford has impressed following his return from injury.
