Puzzled pundit tells Man Utd of major Ancelotti downfall that would further dash trophy hopes
Carlo Ancelotti should be nowhere near Manchester United’s new manager shortlist because of his coaching style, according to Danny Murphy.
United are heading towards a new chapter as they look to move on from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick. While Rangnick is in interim charge, he is unlikely to remain in the dugout.
Instead, he plans to move into an Old Trafford consultancy role helping club chiefs with their strategy.
As a result, Paris Saint-Germain’s Mauricio Pochettino is reportedly United’s leading manager contender. Spain coach Luis Enrique and Ajax’s Erik ten Hag are also on their radar.
Man Utd football director John Murtough spoke of a “thorough process” to find a new boss earlier this week.
As a result, reports have claimed that United chiefs have installed Ancelotti as a contingency plan. The 62-year-old is currently in a second spell at Real Madrid following his Everton exit last summer.
According to pundit Murphy, though, United should have reservations about appointing the ex-Chelsea boss.
“I don’t think so,” Murphy told talkSPORT when asked if Ancelotti should be a Man Utd candidate.
Man Utd must have concerns
“Look, I’ve got the utmost respect for him for all he has achieved over the years, he’s supposed to be a terrific fella too.
“He’s not stayed at any job for longer than two seasons, apart from AC Milan, the club he loved. He stayed there for eight years, but that was a long time ago.
Dalot target for Real Madrid as Manchester United defender out of favour
Diogo Dalot is wanted by Real Madrid from Manchester United as replacement for always injured Dani Carvajal
“He was at Chelsea for a couple of seasons, PSG a couple, Real Madrid a couple, Munich a year, Everton less than a year and now he’s back at Madrid.
“I think Manchester United have to look at something more stable, more long-term.”
Murphy added that he thinks Ancelotti’s management style would hamper United’s current squad.
“I also think his managerial style is one where he’s gone into many clubs that have already got success, got superstars at the top of their game and he’s just keeping that going,” the pundit said.
“I remember speaking to a few people at Chelsea who spoke very highly of him, but they said his management style was to let the players look after themselves. “This United team needs more than that at the moment.”
Ancelotti is a serial winner

Man Utd are looking to win silverware again following their last trophy – the Europa League – in 2017.
Jose Mourinho led the Red Devils to that triumph in his first season in charge.
And Ancelotti is also a serial title winner, too. The Italian has won the Premier League, the Bundesliga, Serie A and the Champions League – among other trophies.
He is now on course to add La Liga triumph to his CV. He would therefore present an option for Man Utd.
However, it remains unclear if United would consider him a serious candidate. They will pursue other targets first.
