Charlie Savage signs new Manchester United deal, but D’Mani Mellor moves on
Charlie Savage, the son of former Leicester star Robbie Savage, has signed a new long-term contract with Manchester United.
Savage, 19, has been with the United Academy since the age of nine. And the club have confirmed he is now tied to United until June 2025, with the option to extend the contract for another year.
Savage senior also started his career at Old Trafford. He signed as a trainee and played in the 1992 FA Youth Cup-winning side before signing professionally. But he never played a game and left for Crewe in 1994, before making his name at Leicester.
Savage junior made his senior debut in December against Young Boys at Old Trafford.
The teenager has represented Wales at Under-17 and Under-19 level. And last season made 23 starts for United’s Under-18s and 19 appearances for the Under-23 side.
Savage said on Twitter: “Great way to end an amazing season.
“Delighted to sign a long-term contract with this special club.

Savage senior said: “So proud , thank you to everyone involved, huge thank you to Chris and Jake at new era (sic).
Mellor moves on
Meanwhile, 21-year-old D’Mani Mellor announced on Instagram that he had left United.
“Making a debut for Manchester United is something that only a small number of people have the honour to say that they have achieved,” Mellor wrote.
“There are so many people that I have to thank for their support along the way. Many have become my closest friends throughout my time here.”
Mellor spent time on loan at Salford in 2021-22, making three appearances in Sky Bet League Two. He played once for United’s first team during his time at the club.
