Christian Eriksen: Details emerge of meaty Man Utd contract offer and main reason why Dane still remains unsure

Christian Eriksen, Brentford midfielder, during Premier League game v West Ham

Manchester United are still waiting on an answer from Christian Eriksen after a report revealed the lucrative package they have proposed to the player in a bid to convince him to move to Old Trafford.

It’s proven a frustrating summer so far for new United boss Erik ten Hag. Having taken over a squad that laboured home to a sixth-placed finish, he will have been hoping for a quick start to the transfer window. However, the Red Devils and Ten Hag are still to make their first signing.

Progress over negotiations for top target Frenkie de Jong have proven difficult, as CEO Richard Arnold recently testified. And while a deal for Tyrell Malacia looks a little more straight forward, they are yet to get either over the line. That said, there is a growing belief that the captures of both players will be finalised in the coming days.

It’s been a similar story with Eriksen too. The classy Dane is a free agent after his short-term deal with Brentford expired. That spell with the Bees has served as a reminder to the watching world what Eriksen is capable of. And following his near-fatal health scare at Euro 2020, his return to action has been one of the stories of 2022.

Indeed, Eriksen now finds himself a man in demand. He has been the subject of plenty of attention, with Brentford obviously keen to keep him.

However, Manchester United are also strongly linked, while Newcastle, West Ham and even Frank Lampard making a transfer pitch for Everton.

Lucrative Man Utd offer

However, perhaps the firmest offer has come from United and the Daily Star now claims to have details of their offer to him.

Per their report, Manchester United officials have held “positive talks” with Eriksen. And they are reporedly offering the 30-year-old a two-year deal worth £150,000 a week.

Those sort of terms would likely top anything that Brentford or indeed any of their competitors are likely to offer.

However, the Star claims Eriksen is yet to commit to the offer for one major reason. They state he wants to see what other players United bring in and what the project will look like at Old Trafford next season.

That said, they do claim the capture of De Jong – would could partner Eriksen in midfield – may yet convince him to sign.

Furthermore, he also has a good relationship with Ten Hag. The Dane spent time training with Ten Hag’s Ajax last summer as he worked on his fitness ahead of a return to the game. The two have kept in touch since and Ten Hag is a big admirer of the Dane’s qualities.

Christian Eriksen would prove a phenomenal signing

The prospect of reinvigorating their midfield with both De Jong and Eriksen must be an exciting one for United.

While De Jong can bring the midfield control and passing range, Eriksen provides the football know-how and eye for a pass. Indeed, his performances completely lit up Brentford over the second half of the season.

In his 10 Premier League starts, Eriksen scored one goal and weighed in with four assists. His delivery from set pieces was also evident with his technique causing obvious difficulties to opposing defenders.

Having that quality in the United ranks would be easy to imagine. He is a player the club has looked at for years and his eye for a pass could create numerous chances for the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Co.

Erik Ten Hag targeting Christian Eriksen move for Manchester United

Given he’s a free agent too adds another appeal. And while pundit Danny Murphy has labelled the move as baffling, we believe the signing of Christian Eriksen would be a really astute piece of business for the Red Devils.

Meanwhile, United appear to have fallen behind in the race for Konrad Laimer with a Euro giant making their first move to sign him.
