Christian Eriksen subject of Man Utd offer as Erik ten Hag moves swiftly amid double Frenkie de Jong concern

Manchester United are reported to have made their first offer for Christian Eriksen amid claims that the club has had second thoughts about a deal to sign Frenkie de Jong.

The classy Dane finds himself a man in demand once again after his miraculous return to the game. Just a year and two days since his near-fatal collapse with a cardiac arrest at Euro 2020, Eriksen will later this month become a free agent. His temporary stint at Brentford has come to an end – and now it seems the top clubs are queuing up for his services.

Indeed, Thomas Frank is doing all in his power to keep him at Brentford, offering him a new and improved deal.

However, it seems Eriksen is ready to move on, with widespread reports claiming he has spurned their advances.

And that has seemingly opened the door for a move elsewhere. To that end, both Tottenham and Manchester United are reportedly both in the mix for his signature.

A move to United would see Eriksen play in the Europa League. Tottenham, meanwhile – Eriksen’s former club – can offer him Champions League football.

And despite Eriksen admitting his wish to return to the top table of European football, it is United who are emerging as favourites.

Now, according to The Athletic, United have made an offer to Eriksen and his agent offering him a move to Old Trafford.

They claim Eriksen has come firmly into their focus amid doubts concerning the De Jong signing.

The Barcelona man is reportedly Erik ten Hag’s No 1 target to strengthen United’s midfield.

Double doubt over De Jong deal

But with Barca demanding a hefty fee, United are reportedly having second thoughts on his signing. Furthermore, with De Jong leaning towards a Barcelona stay, United are seemingly becoming increasingly reluctant to spent such a vast fee.

The Dane, as a free agent, would cost considerably less, of course. Furthermore, he is well-established and proven talent in the Premier League; something that cannot yet be said of De Jong.

As such, Ten Hag is reportedly more drawn towards Eriksen knowing he can slot instantly into their side.

The 30-year-old illustrated his abilities at Brentford with one goal and four assists in 11 Premier League outings.

And his signing for United would allow Ten Hag to focus his investment on other areas of the side. To that end, a recent report claims they are turning up their pursuit of Ajax forward Antony.

Christian Eriksen deal a no-brainer for Manchester United

As far as Manchester United are concerned, the signing of Christian Eriksen would make plenty of sense for Ten Hag.

He was one of the Premier League’s outstanding playmakers during his time at Tottenham. Indeed, he regularly finished high among the top goal creators during his seven seasons in North London.

And he has served a reminder of that quality again during his time at Brentford. Before his arrival, the Bees were fearful of being dragged into the relegation battle. However, he illustrated his class to help Frank’s side deservedly claim a 13th-placed finish.

Indeed, Eriksen is simply a player who improves any side he plays in.

And with Ten Hag looking to revitalise United, he represents a low-risk, low-cost signing.

Furthermore, the United manager would be wise to strengthen his side elsewhere. He wants to add to his attack, while another centre-half is also being pursued.

In addition, United are reportedly preparing an offer to sign Denzel Dumfries with the Inter man making a decision on his future.
