Christian Eriksen has yet to tell Brentford of his plan to sign for Manchester United, where he will reportedly play a vital role.

The 30-year-old is a free agent after finishing a six-month spell with Brentford which has got his career back on track. His cardiac arrest at Euro 2020 put his footballing future in doubt, but he is now firmly back in the limelight.

In fact, his age and Premier League and Serie A experience make Eriksen one of the most lucrative players on a free in this summer’s transfer market.

A host of teams including Man Utd, Brentford, Everton, Newcastle and Everton have reportedly made contract offers.

However, reports on Monday claimed that the Red Devils are closing in on the signing of the Denmark international.

And according to i News, he will play a key Old Trafford role next season if United seal the deal.

Indeed, new Man Utd boss Erik ten Hag reportedly sees Eriksen as an ‘integral’ part of his Old Trafford rebuild.

But as Eriksen leans towards a move to United, the report adds that he has yet to tell Brentford of the developments.

The Bees were hopeful of tying him to another contract. It would be a longer-term one this time after seeing how his Premier League return panned out.

Now that Eriksen has proved himself at the top level, though, United want him in for their Premier League top-four push.

Eriksen played 11 league games for Brentford, scoring one goal and assisting four others. His return to top-flight football was a welcome one after his standout spell with Tottenham earlier in his career.

Man Utd boss Erik ten Hag have made addressing their midfield problems their top priority this summer.

Four players including Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic have left Old Trafford in that area.

Eriksen’s experience and leadership can give United fresh impetus as they chase a return to Champions League football.

They also want Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong, with talks between United and the La Liga side going on for weeks.

While De Jong is five years younger than Eriksen, he offers a different skillset to his fellow midfielder. The two singings would add good balance to Ten Hag’s midfield.
