Cristiano Ronaldo latest: Sensational switch to rivals nearing amid £14m offer as Man Utd reach major decision on offloading star

Cristiano Ronaldo is drawing ever closer to a move away from Manchester United amid reports that a rival Premier League side are preparing a £14m offer for his services.

The Portuguese superstar has been in the news over the last week amid claims he no longer wants to play for United. Just a year into his Old Trafford return, it seems a parting of ways now looks on the cards. Their failure to strengthen adequately so far this summer is seemingly his major motive.

However, some observers reckons Ronaldo’s act is purely a selfish one and the star simply wants to further his incredible Champions League goalscoring record.

Meanwhile, another pundit claims Ronaldo’s desire to quit will ‘ruin his legancy’ at Old Trafford, while also claiming Erik ten Hag will be secretly buzzing at the news.

Either way, it seems a parting of ways appears inevitable this summer. And the player’s agent Jorge Mendes is already working on securing the player a move away from Old Trafford.

To that end, a number of sides have been linked, ranging from Barcelona, PSG and Bayern Munich. However, the German giants have been taken out of the equation after a strong claim made by their CEO Oliver Kahn.

Another intriguing option seemingly on the table, though, is Chelsea. Thomas Tuchel’s side are looking for new attacking options with Romelu Lukaku having departed for Inter Milan.

They are closing on a move for Raheem Sterling, though efforts to sign Raphinha appear to be over.

Chelsea ready to launch £14m offer

However, a move for Ronaldo now looks on the cards amid claims Chelsea are readying an official £14m offer.

That’s the claim made by Football Insider, who claim the offer comes following talks between Tuchel and new owner Todd Boehly. They have decided that the Blues can make the controversial move work – and find a way to intergrate the veteran into their side.

Furthermore, it seems Manchester United are willing to accept the player’s exit wishes.

Per The Sun, Ten Hag is not prepared to fight for the player and will not stand in his way.

They state they are unwilling to enter into lengthy dialogue over trying to change his mind. As such, they are likely to accept Chelsea’s offer once it arrives in their offices.

And with Chelsea offering Ronaldo the Champions League football he craves, the controversial transfer is seemingly set to get the green light.

Noel Whelan backs Cristiano Ronaldo move to Chelsea

The prospective move for Cristiano Ronaldo to Chelsea has also won the backing of pundit Noel Whelan. He reckons the star will thrive at Chelsea and prove himself a solid replacement for Lukaku in attack.

“Look, he scores goals. He scores goals in the Premier League, and in the Champions League. This is the first season he won’t be playing in that competition. We want to see the best players in the world in these competitions. And he is certainly still in that bracket,” Whelan told Football Insider.

Is Chelsea a good fit for Cristiano Ronaldo?

Cristiano Ronaldo is being linked with a move to Chelsea as he is looking for Manchester United exit.

“The shirt sales he would bring and the marketing tool he would be for Chelsea. He’s perfect to fill the void left by Romelu Lukaku. He’d bring a real excitement to the place. He’s got another good season in him, he’s got the desire, drive and passion to play – and that is key.

“You’ve got to commend him for wanting better and wanting to be tested – especially at his age.”

Meanwhile, United are facing a race against time to seal the signing of Christian Eriksen amid claims of broken promises over the transfer.
