Barcelona boss Xavi asks Pique to check one thing over shock Cristiano Ronaldo transfer

Cristiano Ronaldo December 2021

Barcelona boss Xavi is interested in signing Cristiano Ronaldo after the Manchester United man reportedly offered himself to the Catalan giants.

A report from Spain claims that Ronaldo is “not happy” in his second spell at United. What’s more the 36-year-old is “not convinced” by the methods of new interim boss Ralf Rangnick. That has led Ronaldo to speak to former United defender Pique, according to Mundo Deportivo.

Rangnick took over at Old Trafford at the start of the month after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was axed. The German has started Ronaldo in all three Premier League games he has taken charge of, but did leave him out of the draw with Young Boys in the Champions League. Instead Rangnick decided to field a second string for the dead rubber.

Now suggestions have emerged that Ronaldo and his agent have made contact with Barcelona.

The Portugal ace has reportedly asked Pique, his former United team-mate, to test the water at the Camp Nou.

He is said to have contacted Xavi ‘a few days ago’.

And the Barca boss is said to have replied: “Goals and experience he can give us, it is unquestionable.”

Mendes ‘talks’ Ronaldo terms

But the former midfielder has asked Pique to go back and check where Ronaldo would like to play. The former Juve man has played as a central striker for United this season and he has returned 13 goals in 19 games.

Pique is also understood to have asked Lionel Messi if Ronaldo could rent his house from him in Catalonia.

Meanwhile, Ronaldo’s agent Jorge Mendes is already negotiating terms with Barca president Joan Laporta, claims the report.

Both Ronaldo and Mendes know that Barca are looking for a striker after the retirement of Sergio Aguero. Their financial worries also seem to have eased with Ferran Torres signing from Man City for £46.7m with a further £8.5m in add-ons.

Mendes is said to have a good relationship with Laporta and discussions over a move have taken place.
