Cristiano Ronaldo set for Man Utd stay as former club rejects huge transfer opportunity; Bayern chief makes new admission about star

Man Utd striker Cristiano Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo is on the verge of remaining at Manchester United after one of his former clubs opted not to re-sign him, while Bayern Munich CEO Oliver Kahn has also been speaking about the striker.

Ronaldo wants to leave Manchester United this summer so he can pursue major trophies and individual honours. He isn’t sure if this can be done at Old Trafford as Erik ten Hag begins his long-term project with the Red Devils.

There are only a few teams that can afford Ronaldo or offer him the chance of regular silverware. Most have already rejected the chance to capture him though.

Bayern Munich have been linked with the Portuguese. But last week, Kahn said the transfer wouldn’t fit in with their philosophy, or send the right signal to fans.

Atletico Madrid is another potential destination for Ronaldo. A move to the Wanda Metropolitano would be a surprising one due to the player’s history with Real Madrid.

But according to Spanish outlet Marca, Atleti see the transfer as being ‘unfeasible’. This is because they cannot afford his wage demands and also don’t want to spend a transfer fee on a veteran player.

With Chelsea also pulling out of the race, Ronaldo is running out of options. And he now appears set to stay at Manchester United amid claims Real don’t want to re-sign him either.

Marca provide more information on Ronaldo’s future. They claim he will not play for Los Blancos again, despite the mutual admiration between the two parties.

Cristiano Ronaldo faces yet more rejection

There have been rumours about a meeting between Ronaldo and Real president Florentino Perez. But Marca state this isn’t the truth, and that Perez will not look to capture the goalscorer anytime soon.

Real are focusing on other targets right now. And any players they do sign will either be young or at the peak of their powers, unlike Ronaldo.

There has also been movement when it comes to Ronaldo’s links with Bayern. At a recent event, Kahn was asked again about a possible United raid.

He replied, with a strong hint of sarcasm: “We have been fast on the market this summer. It is very exciting. You are asking about Ronaldo, right?

“The window is still open for some for time and we are in talks with several players and things can still happen.”

The reigning Bundesliga champions will probably sign one or two more stars before the transfer window is up. But Ronaldo is not going to be one of them.

He now needs to face the reality that he will be staying in Manchester for the next year. He can then leave United on a free transfer in 2023 and chase a couple more trophies before hanging up his boots as a legend of both Real’s and United’s.

Meanwhile, Kalvin Phillips has been speaking about whether he would join United in the future.
