Man Utd regular being offered to Europe’s richest clubs, setting up potential world-class swap deal
A Manchester United player is reportedly being offered to Europe’s biggest and wealthiest clubs, which could see a world-class star arrive at Old Trafford in a swap deal.
Manchester United put in a great performance as they beat Tottenham 2-0 at home on Wednesday night. Fred opened the scoring for the Red Devils in the 47th minute with a deflected strike before Bruno Fernandes doubled their lead with a curled finish.
Tottenham had no reply and Manchester United handed them a second Premier League defeat of the season.
Erik ten Hag’s side are now up to fifth place, with 19 points. They are four points behind Spurs, who occupy third spot, and eight behind league leaders Arsenal.
Before the clash, Ten Hag was asked about the futures of several key Man Utd players. The likes of Marcus Rashford, Cristiano Ronaldo, Diogo Dalot and David de Gea all have contracts which expire at the end of the season.
Man Utd do have options to extend their deals by 12 months if things reach the last minute. But they are at risk of losing at least a couple of those stars on free transfers.
Ten Hag seems relaxed about the situation, though. “In this moment, we only think about performing,” he told reporters. “We have a lot of games to go so I don’t want to get interfered by talks.
“We have to focus on football, on performances and not negotiating, so that’s what we’ll do now.”
Ten Hag makes admission on player’s future
When asked about De Gea’s future in particular, the Dutch coach responded: “We didn’t make a decision on him. But what I can say is I’m really happy with David De Gea as a keeper.”
Ten Hag added that De Gea brings ‘stability’ and that he works ‘really well’ with the goalkeeper.
Spanish outlet Estadio Deportivo now provide a big update on the shot-stopper. They claim De Gea’s agent is offering his services to the most successful and rich teams across Europe.
The representative is looking to find a solution to De Gea’s situation. The 31-year-old has spent 11 years at Man Utd and made over 500 appearances for them, but it seems he is up for a new challenge.
The report claims De Gea is pushing for a return to his native Spain. He came through Atletico Madrid’s academy and played in the famous red and white shirt 84 times before moving to Manchester.
And there is now the possibility of the 45-cap Spain international returning to Atleti. They are one of the clubs to have been offered De Gea by his agent.
David de Gea goalkeeper swap a possibility
Due to this, the 31-year-old could swap places with current Atleti keeper Jan Oblak. Man Utd are reportedly tracking his situation ahead of a potential move.
Oblak’s Atleti contract expires in 2028, which puts him in a completely different situation to De Gea. However, he has now spent over eight years with the Spanish side and could pursue a new challenge as a result. This is exactly what Casemiro did when opting to leave Real Madrid for Man Utd.
Oblak would be a world-class replacement for De Gea in the Man Utd goal. He has kept an impressive 180 clean sheets in 365 matches for Atleti.
Of course, Oblak is helped by the team’s defensive solidity under Diego Simeone. But he remains an incredible shot-stopper in his own right.
Oblak could hand in a transfer request to try and force through a move away from the Spanish capital. However, Man Utd would still need to spend big to land him.
Due to his long-term contract, Atleti are under no pressure to sell. transfermarkt put his value at £36m, although Simeone’s side would potentially hold out for at least double this.
A swoop for Oblak would be a brilliant move from Man Utd. Having said that, there are big financial factors for club chiefs to consider first.
Meanwhile, Fred has revealed which Man Utd player he loves playing alongside in Ten Hag’s new system.
