De Gea belittles Man Utd with brutal put-down, as Solskjaer awaits Glazers contact

David De Gea after Man Utd v Villarreal Europa League final

David de Gea and Cristiano Ronaldo fumed at Manchester United’s display against Liverpool, the latter insisting that “the time is now” to change something in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team.

The Red Devils suffered one of their worst defeats in their history on Sunday, losing 5-0 to their big rivals. Bruno Fernandes had the chance to make it 1-0 to the hosts early on, but from there it was one-way traffic.

Indeed, Naby Keita opened the scoring for the visitors and it was 4-0 before half time.

Mohamed Salah completed a hat-trick in the second half, before Paul Pogba received a red card.

Gary Neville has blamed what he thinks is a startling lack of organisation from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side. Jamie Carragher, meanwhile, labelled the hosts “an absolute mess”.

Ronaldo thought he had added a consolation goal in the second half. However, he was offside and that added to the misery of the afternoon for United.

Taking to Instagram after the game, the 36-year-old insisted that he and his team-mates have no-one else to blame.

“Sometimes the result is not the one we fight for. Sometimes the score is not the one we want. And this is on us, only on us, because there’s no one else to blame,” he wrote.

Sources have said that Zinedine Zidane would be interested in the Manchester United manager job if they came to him.

“Our fans were, once again, amazing in their constant support. They deserve better than this, much better, and it’s up to us to deliver. The time is now!”

Goalkeeper De Gea, meanwhile said: “We play like kids.”

The Spaniard added: “I feel the pain of our supporters, you give the team everything and we must do the same. I love this club and we will not accept this performance.”

The pressure on Solskjaer has subsequently gone up and he has faced increasing calls to be sacked.

United’s run of fixtures does not get any easier from here. Tottenham are up next on Saturday, before a trip to Atalanta in the Champions League.

From there, the Red Devils play Manchester City, Chelsea and Arsenal – among others – before the middle of December.

As reported by the Daily Express, Solskjaer has not yet had any fresh contact from the club’s owners, the Glazer family, over his future.

The manager said: “I’ve heard nothing else and I’m still thinking about tomorrow’s work.

“We are all low. I can’t say I have felt worse than this. I accept the responsibility. That is mine today and mine going forwards.”

As for Liverpool, manager Jurgen Klopp labelled the result and his players “insane”.
