Dean Henderson exit request denied as Rangnick lays down law over rivals’ move

Ralf Rangick has immediately rejected a transfer request from Dean Henderson with the Manchester United interim boss making clear his plans for the frustrated goalkeeper.

The England stopper has featured just twice in all competitions so far this season, and according to the latest reports he is keen on a change of scenery to get more regular game time under his belt.

Henderson and David de Gea shared the goalkeeping duties at Old Trafford last term. However, the Spaniard has been outstanding this campaign and proven virtually undroppable.

De Gea has started every Premier League outing this term, although Henderson was not helped by starting the new campaign with Covid – leaving his rival in pole position to make the spot his own again.

Now, Henderson has had enough and has officially asked to leave.

The goalkeeper was not part of the United squad that edged out Aston Villa on Monday night. And now his absence has been explained by Rangnick, who is adamant United have no plans to let him leave.

“A couple of weeks ago he asked me [if he could leave] but I told him I’d rather have him stay until the end of the season,” Rangnick told talkSPORT.

“We are very happy with our goalkeepers but if it’s up to me I wouldn’t want him to leave,” he added before reiterating the importance of having “more than one top shot-stopper at the club”.

Antonio Conte wants Dean Henderson at Spurs

Antonio Conte is reportedly interested in Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson as a potential replacement for Hugo Lloris, with more news on Dusan Vlahovic and Matthijs de Ligt.

However, Henderson is unlikely to drop his efforts to leave, despite Rangnick’s rejection of his request.

The keeper is contracted to Old Trafford until 2025. So at this stage, United are under no pressure to sell.

However, the situation could become awkward if Henderson continues to pursue a move away.

Tottenham monitoring Dean Henderson situation

The likes of Ajax and Newcastle are reportedly keen on a move for the England keeper.

However, the Manchester Evening News raises the possibility of a possible move to Tottenham.

Their long-serving No 1 and club captain Hugo Lloris is in the final six months of his deal. As such, he is now free to open talks with interested overseas clubs.

As such, Ligue 1 side Rennes are among those reported to have fixed their gaze on the France No 1.

And while Spurs are keen to secure Lloris to a new deal, they’re aware he could opt to leave.

That’ll leave Antonio Conte and Co searching for a successor. And while Jordan Pickford has been mentioned, the MEN reckons Henderson is their top target.

As such, it is the north London side who are most likely to swoop for Henderson at the present time and are seemingly ready to spend big to land their man.
