Manchester United and Chelsea are joined by Bayern Munich in wanting to sign Denzel Dumfries, according to a report.
The right wing-back spent three years at PSV before joining Inter Milan in August 2021. The Dutch outfit made a profit, having bought Dumfries for just under £5million and then selling him for £12.3m.
The 26-year-old was taken to Inter to replace Achraf Hakimi on the right flank. He went on to register five goals and seven assists in 45 matches. That helped Inter win the Coppa Italia and finish second in Serie A, two points behind rivals and champions AC Milan.
Dumfries, a 35-cap Netherlands international, had been a target for Everton before his transfer to the San Siro.
And a Premier League move is once again on the cards this summer. According to Sport Witness, who cite Sport Mediaset, Manchester United and Chelsea would like to bring Dumfries to England ahead of next season.
Along with German titans Bayern, they have ‘tested the ground’ to see if Inter would be open to letting their player go.
The report states Dumfries’ transfer value has doubled while in Italy. Inter will only accepts offers worth £25.7m or more now.
Of course, if all three interested clubs bid for him then this fee is likely to increase.
Competition arriving for Denzel Dumfries at Inter
The Nerazzurri are on the verge of capturing Cagliari right-back Raoul Bellanova. This could have given United and Chelsea hope that Inter were looking to replace Dumfries if he did leave.
But Bellanova will supposedly arrive to compete with the Rotterdam-born star, rather than become his successor.
So it seems Inter are planning to keep Dumfries around, unless one of United, Chelsea or Bayern comes in with a significant bid.
Dumfries isn’t the only Dutchman new to United’s radar. According to the report, they would like to bring in Stefan de Vrij from Inter too.
Perhaps he is a backup centre-half option, should Arsenal beat them to the signing of Lisandro Martinez.
Dumfries would be an impressive capture for United. He would go straight into their starting eleven, ahead of Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Diogo Dalot.
Chelsea, meanwhile, already have Reece James as their right wing-back. But if he eventually moves to right centre-back, then Dumfries would be a great option to play alongside the Englishman.
Meanwhile, a pundit has told Erik ten Hag what he needs to do to solve the Cristiano Ronaldo problem at United.
