Diogo Dalot joins fellow Manchester United defender on five-man Barcelona shortlist

Manchester United pair Diogo Dalot and Aaron Wan-Bissaka both feature on Barcelona’s list of right-back targets, claims a report.

Barcelona’s controversial summer transfer exploits are far from over and a new full-back is now on the agenda for Xavi. Apparently they have drawn up a five-man shortlist of potential signings and the two United players feature.

Both Dalot, 23, and Wan-Bissaka, 24, are of interest to Barca officials, according to Spanish journalist Gerard Romero.

The LaLiga club’s dire financial situation has not stopped them going after their targets this summer. And both United defenders have been the subject of transfer speculation this summer.

Wan-Bissaka has been a target for Crystal Palace all summer. According to BBC Sport, Palace are said to be interested in a loan move for their former player.

But as yet no deal has transpired, despite Wan-Bissaka being an unused sub in both Premier League games to date.

Dalot has started both league defeats at right-back, but he was subject to speculation earlier in the summer.

But according to the Manchester Evening News, Dalot features in Ten Hag’s plans and his two starts confirm that.

Ex-Tottenham man Juan Foyth, Paris Saint-Germain star Thomas Meunier and Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong join Dalot and Wan-Bissaka on Barca’s wanted list.

Fabrizio Romano claims the LaLiga outfit have not made an official approach to United for Dalot. But they remain keen on the Portuguese star.

Dalot-Dest swap deal talk

What could make things interesting is that Manchester United are understood to be keen on Barcelona right-back Sergino Dest.

United’s ongoing pursuit of Frenkie de Jong has been the transfer saga of the summer. But Ten Hag is also keen on former Ajax star Dest.

And according to Sport, Ten Hag is willing to send Diego Dalot the other way to complete a deal for the USA star.

Barcelona have set a price tag of £17m for Dest – a similar price that United paid for Dalot in June 2018.

Typically swap deals are hard to complete. And this potential deal looks to be the same.

Whether Dest would fancy a move to Old Trafford is unclear. While Ten Hag will be unwilling to offload his first-choice right-back without the guarantee of a ready-made replacement.
