Disgruntled Jesse Lingard in subtle jibe at Rangnick after Manchester United farewell snub

Jesse Lingard preparing for Manchester United

Jesse Lingard looks almost certain to leave Manchester United this summer with an axe to grind after he was denied an Old Trafford farewell on Monday.

The midfielder, 29, has been with United since he was nine, but his time looks like coming to and end this season. Lingard is out of contract and will move on after failing to win a place in the United team under Ralf Rangnick.

Lingard almost left last summer after a brilliant loan spell at West Ham. The price tag on the head of the England man was too high though and the Hammers could not complete a permanent deal.

Instead Lingard, who remains a target for West Ham, returned to United under Ole Gunner Solskjaer. But again he could not break into the side on a regular basis.

He has made just two starts in the Premier League and he was left on the bench against Brentford.

It looked like the ideal opportunity for Rangnick to give Lingard an emotional farewell. And with two away games now remaining his chance to wave goodbye to the United fans has gone.

United had the three points wrapped up just after the hour mark when Cristiano Ronaldo bagged a second from the penalty spot.

But Lingard did not get the opportunity and instead Fred, Edinson Cavani and Phil Jones all got late run-outs.

Out of contract Man United stars not talking to Rangnick

Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard, Edison Cavani and other out of contract players are not talking to Ralf Rangnick and Manchester United bosses about futures

Lingard has not commented until Tuesday night, when he posted a picture of himself as a youngster in the red of United.

His subtle Instagram post did not need any words.

Rangnick defends Lingard snub

Lingard’s brother Louie Scott slammed the ‘classless’ decision after the game. He later removed the post which was scathing of Manchester United.

“Been there since the age of nine and didn’t even get a send off,” read his angry rant.

Interim boss Rangnick was asked to explain his decision not to bring on Lingard on Monday night. And the German boss pointed to the midfielder’s lack of fitness.

“Yes, but for personal and family reasons he didn’t train a lot,” Rangnick said. “I think yesterday [Sunday] was the first training session after he asked me [to give him] some time at home.

“Again, tonight was one of those nights where I would have loved to have five substitutes for other players; Alejandro Garnacho, I would have loved to have brought him on at 3-0 and let him play for 15 minutes.

“Then I had to decide whether to bring on him or Edinson Cavani. And that’s why I decided to bring on Edinson.”
