Electrifying striker awaits Man Utd contact with showdown talks imminent to determine summer transfer fate

Reported Man Utd striker target Santiago Gimenez is preparing for showdown talks to determine his chances of leaving Feyenoord this summer, according to a report.

Gimenez has recently been linked with a transfer to Man Utd after impressing in his debut season with Feyenoord. The former Cruz Azul attacker has scored 20 goals from 41 appearances for the Dutch outfit so far.

Thanks to his form, the Mexican striker could earn another transfer fairly soon. Man Utd need a new centre-forward this summer to take over from Burnley loanee Wout Weghorst, so Gimenez might be one of their options.

According to the latest from ESPN Mexico, though, the 22-year-old has not had contact with any club yet. That would seem to contrast previous information that Man Utd had touched base with him.

Other than Man Utd, the interested parties include Spanish La Liga duo Atletico Madrid and Sevilla and Portuguese Primeira Liga giants Benfica. But Gimenez is still waiting to hear from any of them.

In the meantime, his father is planning to travel to the Netherlands to hold talks with Feyenoord about his future. Gimenez is supposed to be under contract in Rotterdam until 2026 after the arrangement he signed last summer.

Perhaps with that in mind, the most likely outcome is still that he will stay with Feyenoord into a second season.

Whether Man Utd try their luck with a bid to lure him away remains to be seen. Many options are on their radar when it comes to discovering a new target man to lead the line at Old Trafford.

Man Utd considering latest Eredivisie raid

The Dutch market has been a fairly common one for them to turn to since Erik ten Hag took charge as manager, though, so it might not be too surprising that he is aware of how Gimenez has been playing for the current Eredivisie league leaders.

With no Premier League experience under his belt, Gimenez might be one of the riskier options Man Utd could choose. It may be wiser not to make him their main striker straight away even if they do pick him up. That said, if he has adapted this seamlessly to European football with Feyenoord, he might back himself to make an impact wherever he goes next.

There will be elements of his game to finetune, though. Perhaps remaining with Feyenoord might be one of the most ideal ways to work on that.

The report does not mention what their asking price would be to let Gimenez leave after one year only. Clearly, it is something they would be reluctant to think about. But the forward’s father is about to gain some clarity with their imminent discussions.
