Man Utd embarrassed with star to get phenomenal transfer to Euro giants when leaving Old Trafford
Manchester United could have made a mistake when putting a big-name player on the market, as a report has claimed he will secure a huge transfer to a European giant next.
Axel Tuanzebe, Phil Jones and David de Gea have all been allowed to leave Old Trafford on free transfers. Man Utd have also gotten rid of Alex Telles and Anthony Elanga, by selling them to Al Nassr and Nottingham Forest respectively.
Harry Maguire, Scott McTominay, Fred, Anthony Martial and Tom Heaton are some of the other players who could depart Man Utd this summer.
Man Utd had been in contract talks with goalkeeper De Gea to prevent him from becoming a free agent. De Gea even accepted a contract offer from the Red Devils, only for the club to pull out of it at the last minute.
Man Utd have since brought in Andre Onana to replace the Spaniard. They spent £47million when capturing Onana from Inter Milan.
But Erik ten Hag may end up regretting his decision to let De Gea go, as German outlet Sport Bild claim the shot-stopper is now being lined up for a major transfer.
Their report suggests a shock move to Bayern Munich could be on the cards, as Thomas Tuchel has just added De Gea to his wish list.
Bayern are in need of a new keeper as veteran star Manuel Neuer will not be fit for the start of the 2023-24 campaign as he is still working his way back to full fitness after a leg break in December.
David de Gea could end up replacing Manuel Neuer
Bayern do have Yann Sommer on their books. However, the Switzerland ace is pushing to join Inter, in a move which would see him replace Onana.
Due to these factors, Bild claim Bayern will soon engage in talks with De Gea and his camp to see if he is open to a switch to the Allianz Arena. It is likely De Gea will jump at the chance to join Bayern as such a move will given him the opportunity to win regular trophies in Germany and also compete in the latter stages of the Champions League.
Of course, De Gea will find it tough to keep his starting spot ahead of Neuer once the latter returns from injury. But as Neuer is now 37 years old, he could retire when his Bayern contract expires in 2024, and this would give De Gea the chance to become his successor in goal.
Ten Hag will be hoping De Gea doesn’t achieve this move and go on to become a success at Bayern. If this were to happen, then he would be criticised for allowing the long-serving Man Utd star to go on a free.
Meanwhile, Man Utd are expected to have an offer for one of their striker targets accepted, according to reports.
