Enough is enough for abandoned Man Utd star, as Inter Milan redeem transfer hopes

Man Utd defenders Luke Shaw, Victor Lindelof and Harry Maguire

The next player to move from Man Utd to Inter Milan in what is becoming a familiar transfer route has potentially been revealed in a report.

In recent years, Inter have taken the likes of Romelu Lukaku, Alexis Sanchez and Ashley Young away from Man Utd. Their current squad also consists of some former Man Utd players, like Matteo Darmian and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

According to a report by The Sun, there could soon be another player able to say he has represented both clubs – if Inter get their way with one particular pursuit.

It is claimed that Inter are back in the hunt for Man Utd defender, Victor Lindelof. The 28-year-old is behind Raphael Varane, Lisandro Martinez and probably Harry Maguire too in the centre-back hierarchy at Old Trafford.

Lindelof hasn’t even made it into the Man Utd squad for either of their most recent two Premier League fixtures. Although, he was on the bench for the Europa League win over Real Betis.

In fact, the last time Lindelof set foot on a pitch for Man Utd was on March 1 in an FA Cup win over West Ham. In terms of the Premier League, he has only started five matches all season.

Hence, the Sweden international will be weighing up his options. Recently, he emerged as a potential target for Sevilla, who already have Alex Telles on loan from Man Utd.

But another option for Lindelof could be to join Inter, after they already showed an interest in January. At that point, Man Utd were not willing to reduce their defensive depth.

But there could be more scope for some personnel changes in their defence during the summer. Hence, The Sun predicts that Inter will try their luck again.

Victor Lindelof exit from Man Utd becoming more likely

Whereas Lindelof was previously willing to fight for his place, there may now be an acknowledgement that enough is enough and he needs to move on before it’s too late.

Due to turn 29 before the start of next season, he should still have something to offer at a high level. But his days as someone a Man Utd manager can regularly turn to seem to be over.

Besides, his contract with Man Utd is due to expire next summer anyway. Therefore, they might have to cash in on him, unless they surprisingly decided to activate their option to renew his deal by another 12 months.

As things stand, Man Utd’s plan – per the report – is to try and recoup as much of the £31million they paid Benfica for Lindelof in 2017 as possible. Whether Inter would be willing to make an offer of that magnitude is another matter.

The Serie A side risk losing two of their main centre-backs – Milan Skriniar and Stefan de Vrij – for free in the summer at the end of their contracts. As a consequence, they need to find replacements at the right kind of value.

In all honesty, Man Utd might struggle to get a fee around the £30m mark for a fringe player. But they will be waiting to hear what Inter have to offer if they firm up their interest in Lindelof.
