Ten Hag opens up on Ajax exit chances of Timber and Antony amid Man Utd links

Jurrien Timber separating Bruno Martins Indi and Antony

Erik ten Hag has spoken openly about two of the Ajax players who have been tipped to follow him to Manchester United – Jurrien Timber and Antony.

Ten Hag will soon begin his new role as Manchester United manager. There is much anticipation for the type of changes he could bring to the club. For example, he is likely to modify the playing squad at Old Trafford.

Several players will be on their way out and Ten Hag will have to find reinforcements who can do better than what the current crop has managed this term.

To do so, he may shift his gaze back to the direction he is coming from. Manchester United have long been linked with Ajax defender Timber and winger Antony.

Neither pursuit will be easy due to the amount of interest in each player. But both are regarded as personnel who could improve the United roster.

And after terminating his own Ajax deal as an Eredivisie title winner again, Ten Hag has been making no secret of their talents.

“I think that all top clubs in Europe have Timber in their sights,” Ten Hag told De Telegraaf. “But I think that currently applies to a lot of Ajax players.

“If Antony were to go, it would be a loss for Ajax, because you have no one in the current selection who can take over his position. He is top class.”

Man Utd links with Timber and Antony only natural

Timber is a 20-year-old defender who made his Ajax debut under Ten Hag in March 2020. He has since amassed more than 70 appearances for the club.

Capable of playing anywhere across the defence, but mainly centrally, he would help replenish an area of the United setup that has come under scrutiny this season.

Man United want Ajax winger Antony

Manchester United are still keen on a deal for Brazilian winger Antony this summer.

Further forward, Antony has been in Amsterdam since 2020. The Brazilian wide man has contributed 22 goals and 20 assists from 79 appearances for the club he joined from Sao Paulo.

Either would be an astute signing for the Red Devils in theory. They may have to break the bank to get them, though. It remains to be seen if they will be willing or able to.

But it is clear that Ten Hag is an admirer of both. Indeed, neither have had another manager during their time with Ajax.

Whether they will stay there to be led by another, or will follow their current mentor to Manchester, only time will tell.
