Manchester United are looking at a bargain deal for a former player to solve their striker problem, while Liverpool are mulling over a move for an AC Milan superstar, according to the Euro papers.
MAN UTD PONDER MEMPHIS DEPAY MOVE
Manchester United are lining up a move for former striker Memphis Depay, according to a report in Spain.
Memphis is looking for a way out of Barcelona and the Camp Nou side are keen to see the Dutch striker depart. They want to make room to register their new recruits.
Memphis, 28, had looked destined to sign for Juventus. But that deal has run into trouble with Juve switching their focus to Arkadiusz Milik, according to Sky Italia.
A meeting of Juve officials has led the Serie A club to opt for the Marseille man instead of making a move for Memphis. And the collapse of that deal has seen the door open for United.
Marca report that sources have indicated that Manchester United are willing to make a move for Memphis. An offer of around £8.5m has been mooted for Memphis, who spent two years at Old Trafford between 2015 and 2017.
Memphis ha reached an agreement to terminate his contract with Barcelona. The Dutchman has one more year left, but Barca are hoping to see the player leave.
United also hold interest in Ajax winger Antony and PSV’s Cody Gakpo. But the information is that United would pursue Memphis in addition to one of those arriving at Old Trafford.
Former United boss Louis van Gaal signed Memphis for £25m from PSV in the summer of 2015. He went on to score seven goals in 53 appearances before leaving for Lyon in January 2017.
