Euro Paper Talk: Man Utd make big first Antony bid as transfer reality hits Ten Hag; Serie A side have Aston Villa raid plan

Antony, Ajax v Shakhtar Donetsk July 2022

Manchester United make their first bid for Ajax star Antony, while AC Milan have a plan to lure Carney Chukwuemeka out of Aston Villa – both in all the latest Euro Paper Talk.

Manchester United have moved in with an official bid for Antony, but Ajax have rejected their advances according to a report.

Like with Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong, the Red Devils have been chasing the Brazilian for some time now without success. But while De Jong’s situation is riddled with financial complications, Antony’s situation is much simpler.

Ajax have already sold a host of stars this summer, including Lisandro Martinez to Man Utd and Ryan Gravenberch to Bayern Munich.

As a result, they set an initial £68million price tag for Antony. But more recent reports have claimed that the Eredivisie side raised their valuation to £84million.

Therefore, United’s first offer of €60million (£50million) – as reported by Goal – does not come very close to Ajax’s demands.

It remains unclear whether Man Utd will return with a bigger offer. Ajax welcome the profit they have made on their star players, but they also need to be able to compete in the Champions League and Eredivisie.

Nevertheless, every player has a price and while it is a steep one for Antony, Ajax cannot totally rule out his sale.

Antony wants to leave Ajax this summer with a transfer to the Premier League to Chelsea or Manchester United most likely

Indeed, Ajax technical manager Gerry Hamstra said earlier this week that “you can never say never, I have learned that by now”.

United are also reportedly keen on Benjamin Sesko, the Slovenian RB Salzburg striker who scored his side’s winner in a pre-season win over Liverpool on Wednesday.

Antony, meanwhile, scored 10 goals and assisted 12 others for Ajax last season and has a strong connection with United manager Erik ten Hag.
