Euro Paper Talk: Frenkie de Jong deal finally agreed as Man Utd relent and three more Ten Hag targets are named

Manchester United are finally close to sealing a mammoth deal for Frenkie de Jong, with three more Erik ten Hag targets revealed, Raphinha has made his choice amid claims Tottenham are launching a bid, while Wednesday’s Euro Paper Talk claims Newcastle are ready to snatch a big-money Chelsea target.

FRENKIE DE JONG DEAL CLOSING IN FOR MAN UTD

Manchester United are finally nearing an agreement to sign Frenkie de Jong after reportedly backing down to Barcelona’s demands.

The quest to bring the Dutch midfielder to Old Trafford has been ongoing for several weeks now. He has been identified as a priority signing by Erik ten Hag as he looks to bring in midfield reinforcements.

That need has intensified following confirmation that Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic, Juan Mata and Jesse Lingard are all departing.

However, reaching an agreement with Barcelona has been far from easy. Indeed, United CEO Richard Arnold has lifted the lid on the reasons behind the delay.

To that end, Barcelona have always made clear their £73.8m (€86m) valuation of De Jong has no room for negotiation.

That has not stopped United trying to bring the deal down by offering a series of incentives and add-ons to make up the shortfall. To that end, their offer of £51.5m (€60m) together with add-ons has fallen short.

Indeed, Barca remain immovable, insisting they want the entire fee as a guarantee up front.

Now, according to AS these talks are finally nearing a conclusion, with United relenting to Barcelona’s demands.

Barca now want the deal wrapped up before June 30 in order to comply with their FFP regulations by July 1.

As such, El Chiringuito TV claim the deal is now ’90 per cent done’ with final negotiations likely to conclude this week.

Ten Hag wants a new defender after Frenkie de Jong

With a deal for De Jong now close to fruition, Ten Hag is reportedly turning his focus on to signing a new defender.

Now the Daily Mail claims the United manager has drawn up a shortlist of three names.

They claim two players from Ajax comprise that list, with Jurrien Timber their No 1 target.

Manchester United will likely have to pay as much as £40m to land the 20-year-old defender.

If they fail to land him, then Pau Torres is reportedly next in line.

Manchester United manager expects Frenkie De Jong to complete move from Barcelona this summer, but why?

The Villarreal defender held talks with United last summer, only for them to sign Raphael Varane instead. He remains a player of interest, though his fee is likely to be nearer the £50m mark.

And finally, Ten Hag is also considering a move for Lisandro Martinez, who also impressed under Ten Hag’s guidance at Ajax.

The Argentina international is also on Arsenal’s shopping list.
