Euro Paper Talk: Brutal reality hits for Ten Hag as Frenkie de Jong holds showdown Man Utd talks; West Ham plot £17m PSG raid

Frenkie de Jong, Barcelona May 2022

Frenkie de Jong reaches out to Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag to give his final word on an Old Trafford transfer, while West Ham eye a Paris Saint-Germain star – both in all the latest Euro Paper Talk.

DE JONG REACHES OUT TO MAN UTD

Frenkie de Jong has personally informed Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag that he doesn’t want to move to Old Trafford, according to a report.

The transfer saga involving the Netherlands midfielder has been ongoing for a number of weeks now without a resolution. United have agreed an initial £63million fee with Barcelona, but major deal roadblocks remain.

Not only does De Jong want to stay at Camp Nou, but he would rather move elsewhere than to the Red Devils.

What’s more, the issue of his deferred wages that Barcelona owe him is causing Man Utd further frustration.

United have therefore been focusing on what they can change – trying to persuade De Jong otherwise while Barcelona resolve his wage dispute by potentially demanding he takes a pay cut.

However, Sport has now revealed that De Jong has himself told Ten Hag that a move to United is firmly off the cards.

Barring a ‘miracle’, the report adds, the new manager will not be getting his top midfield target this summer.

De Jong and Ten Hag starred at Ajax together, reaching the Champions League semi-finals.

Frenkie de Jong has reportedly told Erik ten Hag he doesn’t want to join Manchester United.

Ten Hag consequently wants to reunite with his fellow Dutchman to get his Man Utd project up and running.

But De Jong is clear that he wants to stay and so he will have to come to an agreement with Barca.

Nevertheless, the La Liga club – who have spent big on Raphinha and Robert Lewandowski – need to balance their books. They would rather sell De Jong, who they view as their most saleable asset.
