Euro Paper Talk: Harry Maguire doomed as Man Utd get double lift in hunt for successor

Ronald Araujo, Barcelona defender celebrates a goal against Sevilla in LaLiga

Manchester United are seemingly edging closer to the signing of Ronald Araujo amid doubts over Harry Maguire, Arsenal are nearing a free-transfer raid for a Barcelona utility man, while Monday’s Euro Paper Talk claims Newcastle will shatter their record to sign a Roma star.

RONALD ARAUJO NEARING MANCHESTER UNITED MOVE

Manchester United are making serious inroads into the signing of Ronald Araujo, according to reports.

United interim boss Ralf Rangnick is currently in the hotseat until the end of the season, when he will move into an advisory role. The German will have a major say-so on transfer targets, as well as potentially overseeing some big-name exits.

Among those tipped to leave are Harry Maguire. The United skipper has had a torrid time of things this season with reports last week claiming United players are questioning his role in the side.

Therefore, finding a top-class replacement appears very much in Rangnick’s thinking.

United are reportedly eyeing Borussia Dortmund’s Manuel Akanji as a potential summer recruit.

He will be in the final 12 months of his deal this summer and could move on for a bargain fee.

And it’s a similar story with Araujo, who now appears United’s primary target.

The player has been widely praised by Xavi, who this weekend branded him as Barca’s best player since he took charge.

However, the sweet talking is yet to see an agreement reached over a new deal.

Ronald Araujo brushing up on his English

Now, according to Sport, Araujo is having regular English lessons ahead of an anticipated move.

They state he already has an offer on the table from at least one English side – believed to be United – ahead of the summer window.

Chelsea are also reportedly keen too – and it seems a move to the Premier League is looking a serious option.

In a further boost to United, Barcelona have reportedly identified his replacement should he depart.

And according to El Nacional, Barca are planning a sizeable move to sign Kalidou Koulibaly as his replacement.

Araujo, despite having just a year left on his deal, is likely to command a fee of around £35m.
