What’s more, a “young” striker and a “fast” centre-back are priorities for whoever becomes the new manager.

Meanwhile, Gazzetta dello Sport reports that United are eyeing up a move for Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.

While more of a box-to-box player than a defensive midfielder, he has nevertheless impressed in Serie A. Since joining Lazio in 2015, the 27-year-old Serbia international has racked up 284 appearances.

This term, meanwhile, Milinkovic-Savic has played in all but one league match and contributed nine goals and eight assists.

Gazzetta dello Sport claims that the long-term United target will cost the Red Devils up to €80million (£67million). While few clubs could pay that much, the Red Devils have the finances to do so.

The Italian newspaper also loosely talks of a possible move for Milinkovic-Savic to Paris Saint-Germain. The midfielder, whose contract runs out in 2024, recently visited the French capital with his partner.
