Euro Paper Talk: Man Utd still thinking of misfiring attacker as Tottenham join race for Kane understudy; Chelsea striker approach ‘inevitable’

Manchester United have been joined by Tottenham Hotspur in their admiration of a Serie A attacking star, while Chelsea have their eyes on another after getting in contact for a man in form – all in Tuesday’s Euro transfer gossip.

Manchester United and Tottenham are thinking about making a move for misfiring Roma striker Tammy Abraham, according to claims in Italy.

Abraham set Serie A alight last season after leaving Chelsea for Roma. In all competitions, he scored 27 goals – which was a club record for a player in their debut season.

However, he only has two goals to his name from 14 appearances so far this term. Still, the prospect of a return to the Premier League is looming for the Englishman.

According to Calciomercato, Abraham is still in the thoughts of Manchester United, who have identified him as a possible successor to Cristiano Ronaldo.

Finding a new centre-forward could be a priority for the Red Devils in 2023. In that regard, Abraham is under consideration.

If Ronaldo is to leave, Manchester United would have just Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford as centre-forward options. Since both can play out wide too, it may benefit Erik ten Hag to have another focal point centrally.

Abraham has 26 Premier League goals to his name from stints with Chelsea and Swansea.

However, the report from Calciomercato adds that Tottenham are also keeping tabs on the 25-year-old. They could offer the London-born ace a return to his home city.

Spurs already increased their attacking depth with the signing of Richarlison in the summer. Harry Kane’s contractual situation remains a minor worry, although it looks likely the England captain will continue as their main man.

Abraham is one of Kane’s main deputies for the England national team. Now, there is a chance they could become teammates at club level too.

Man Utd move might suit Tammy Abraham more

The report does not provide much information about how much Abraham might cost. Chelsea have an option to buy him back next summer for €80million (just under £70million).

However, he is not showing the form of a player worth that much at present. Hence, it remains to be seen if Chelsea could be on his case too.

For now, Abraham must merely work on improving his form. Indeed, his current downturn for Roma means he could miss out on England’s World Cup squad, per Il Messaggero.

Suitors back home will be keeping a close eye on how he manages in getting back up to speed. If he can recapture the form he found last season, he might be worth investing in.

But Manchester United’s need is probably greater than Tottenham’s. Abraham would struggle to dislodge Kane, but could have a chance of starting at Old Trafford.

Still, the Red Devils will be wary of any rival interest for a player who has shown his potential at several stages of his career.
