Euro Paper Talk: Ten Hag presence gives Man Utd huge advantage in bid to beat Liverpool to £65m sensation; Tottenham rekindle interest in classy Frankfurt star

Jurgen Klopp and Erik ten Hag, Liverpool and Man Utd

Erik ten Hag is set to play a pivotal role in Manchester United beating Liverpool to a £65million attacking sensation from Holland, while Thursday’s Euro Paper Talk claims Tottenham have rekindled their interest in signing an Eintracht Frankfurt attacking midfielder.

TEN HAG KEY TO LANDING WORLD CUP SENSATION

Man Utd boss Erik ten Hag will be key in persuading PSV Eindhoven star Cody Gakpo to join the Red Devils over a host of other interested parties, according to a Dutch journalist.

The Red Devils have been heavily linked with the Netherlands attacker as they look for a replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo.

Ten Hag currently has Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial as his main forward options. But with the latter injury-prone, United are expected to try and add to their squad in January.

Ten Hag is known to have shown an interest in Gakpo over the summer, while the player himself has seemingly welcomed an offer from the Red Devils.

The talented 23-year-old has contributed nine goals and 12 assists in just 14 Eredivisie matches this campaign. Gakpo also has three goals in four matches at the World Cup for the Netherlands.

His form this season, and in Qatar, has seen his price rocket from around £25m in the summer market to PSV’s latest demands of a whopping £65m.

Dutch journalist claims advantage United in Gakpo chase

And Voetbal International journalist Marco Timmer claims Ten Hag will pivotal when United speak to the player’s agent after the World Cup.

“His entourage have held talks with most of the big European clubs over the last two seasons. They want to know what the plans are with Cody,” Timmer told Bernabeu Digital.

“Last summer, Manchester United wanted him and until the last market week he thought he would play for United. Afterwards, Leeds United and Southampton were very serious, but Gakpo wanted to stay at PSV.

“For the winter transfer window, his agents will talk after the World Cup with bigger clubs like Manchester United again, Real Madrid, Liverpool and Bayern Munich, for example. Manchester United seem to have a slight advantage in my opinion.

“Manager Erik ten Hag has the same agency as Gakpo and I think he needs a replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo.”

United would certainly steal a march over bitter rivals Liverpool if they can get Gakpo on board, but it remains to be seen whether or not PSV will be willing to do business in January or wait until next summer.
