Euro Paper Talk: Murtough talks accelerate for £25m signing to replace costly Man Utd flop Ten Hag doesn’t rate; Spurs eye deal for Kevin de Bruyne destroyer

Manchester United are closing on a deal to sign a new right-back, Tottenham are desperate to sign a World Cup midfielder, while Tuesday’s Euro Paper Talk claims Leeds face a fight to keep one of their summer signings.

JEREMIE FRIMPONG TOPS MAN UTD JANUARY WISHLIST

Manchester United director of football John Murtough is planning to step up their chase for Jeremie Frimpong in a matter of weeks.

The Red Devils spent heavily over the summer with more than £200m splashed out on phase one of Erik ten Hag’s rebuild. But it seems they have no plans to let up with the club planning for further investment during the January window.

A new striker to replace Cristiano Ronaldo is very much top of their thinking. To that end, reports on Monday revealed talks for a £90m addition are gathering pace at Old Trafford.

However, Ten Hag is also desperate to strengthen his right-sided defensive options and he also wants a new right-back.

That’s because Diogo Dalot, while a man in form, faces an unopposed challenge for his shirt in the side. And with TEAMtalk learning on Monday that Aaron Wan-Bissaka is free to leave and has two clubs pursuing him, United are stepping up their hunt for a new right-back of their own.

With that in mind, Sky Deutschland reports that talks are planned over a deal to sign Bayer Leverkusen star Frimpong.

Ten Hag has reportedly made the Netherlands star his No 1 target for that position. Furthermore, Frimpong too is also reportedly well aware of United’s interest and is keen to hear what they have to say.

As such, Murtough is ready to make contact with Leverkusen over a prospective deal. The 21-year-old is rated in the £25m bracket and reports claim a move to Old Trafford is ‘looking more and more likely’.

There remains some doubts if this will go through, though, in January or the summer. Either way, Murtough and Ten Hag are confident of getting their man with the Bundesliga side already searching for Frimpong’s successor.

His signing will also ease the pressure on United in their efforts to persuade Dalot to sign a new deal. The Portuguese star’s contract is due to expire in summer 2023, though the Red Devils do hold a one-year option on that.
