Man Utd learn Harry Kane factors that could force through blockbuster transfer and leave Tottenham broken

Tottenham striker Harry Kane

TEAMtalk can reveal exactly when a decision will be made on the future of Harry Kane amid growing claims that Manchester United are looking to prise away the Tottenham striker.

The England captain’s deal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is due to expire in summer 2024, meaning he has just 18 months left to run. And while talks have been ongoing with Spurs over an extension, an agreement is yet to be reached.

Indeed, Kane, understandably, is keen to see first what direction the club are heading in. There have been signs of steady progress under the management of Antonio Conte, with the Italian leading the club back into the Champions League.

But patchy form and performances this season leaves their future particpation in the competition in some jeopardy. Indeed, four home defeats in 10 Premier League games during the 2022/23 season leaves Tottenham five points adrift of fourth place.

Indeed, as it stands, it is difficult to see any of the current top four dropping out those places. Rivals Arsenal have a handsome lead at the summit, while reigning Premier League champions Manchester City also look a shoo in.

Newcastle, meanwhile, have lost just once all season, while Man Utd have suffered just one loss in their last 21 matches.

As such, Conte and Spurs have it all do over the second half of the season.

Furthermore, there is also growing speculation that Conte himself could walk away from Tottenham. And reports earlier this week outlined four potential options to replace him at the helm should he part company.

As a result, it is no surprise to see talk growing that Kane is back on Erik ten Hag’s wishlist.

The Red Devils, though, are far from his only suitors with Bayern Munich strongly linked with a move.

Man Utd will soon learn Harry Kane transfer chances

Either way, TEAMtalk’s transfer expert Graeme Bailey says the next six months will be crucial in determining Kane’s future.

“Harry Kane’s contract has just 18 months left to run,” Bailey said. “We should not forget this and we are going to be talking and reading about his future a lot in the coming months.

Tottenham want him to stay and publicly they remain confident. That said, it is far from certain that he does sign a new contract with Spurs.

“Coming into this season Kane and Spurs thought top-four would be the minimum they would achieve. There was even talk they could possibly even mount a title challenge…. However, as it stands, a top-four finish looks a tough call.

“Also the long-term future of Antonio Conte is far from certain – and that is also not helping convince Kane [to stay].

“Kane has a big decision to make, and he knows that there are options away from staying in north London.”

Kane could leave Spurs for new career challenge

As well as Manchester United, Bayern Munich are also huge admirers of Kane. And having lost Robert Lewandowski last summer, they are regularly mentioned as potential suitors for the 29-year-old.

“Bayern Munich are huge confirmed fans of the player,” Baile added. “They believe he would be an ideal signing for them and could be the natural replacement for Lewandowski. Kane still isn’t 30 and the chance to play for one of Europe’s top teams and a team who challenge for the Champions League title could be a huge lure for him.

“There are other options also set to be available. And another to watch would be Manchester United. If they can finish top four and land Champions League football, that could bring them into play.

“We also know that Ten Hag wants a proper No 9 – we have seen that from the signing of Wout Weghorst on a short-term deal – and there are few better in world football than Kane.

“The next six-months will be key to Kane’s future, and whether that is at Tottenham…or not.”
