Man Utd spark January bidding war with two Prem suitors chasing big-money flop Ten Hag refuses to play
Man Utd are willing to axe an expensive transfer mistake in January and their decision has quickly roused the interest of two Premier League sides, TEAMtalk can exclusively reveal.
Manchester United’s most recent transfer window bucked the trend. The Red Devils have been known for their scattergun approach and general wastefulness in the market in the post-Ferguson era.
However, the likes of Lisandro Martinez, Casemiro and Antony have all made instant impacts and under Erik ten Hag, the future once again looks bright.
But before United can solely focus on what’s to come, past transfer mistakes must first be addressed.
Few would argue £50m signing, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, has been a success. The ex-Crystal Palace star split time almost equally with Diogo Dalot last season, though he’s barely got a look in under Ten Hag.
Indeed, Wan-Bissaka has racked up a measly four minutes of playing time across all competitions this season. His limitations going forward always looked a poor fit for the progressive Ten Hag and per our sources, a decision has been made.
TEAMtalk has learned Man Utd are open to moving Wan-Bissaka on in January, either by the loan route or permanent sale.
Two EPL clubs chasing Wan-Bissaka
That decision has alerted two Premier League sides, with Fulham ready to rival Crystal Palace for the signature of Wan-Bissaka in January.
Fulham boss Marco Silva has made a new right-back one of his top priorities for the winter window and Wan-Bissaka figures highly on his list of targets.
Winger Bobby Decordova-Reid had been playing out of position at right-back before the World Cup break and Silva knows he needs to strengthen at full-back for the second half of the season.
Wan-Bissaka has found himself firmly out of favour at Old Trafford this season and appears to not figure in the long-term plans of Ten Hag. As such, we’re told United are willing to let him move on.
Crystal Palace are also keen on bringing Wan-Bissaka back to Selhurst Park after failing in a move to re-sign their former star last summer.
The Eagles were the only club linked with a move, though the Athletic claimed they preferred a loan switch which United did not favour at the time.
Wan-Bissaka is keen on a move away from Old Trafford in January to go in search of regular first-team football after a frustrating last six months with the Red Devils.
Perfect Man Utd replacement is up for sale
Should the 25-year-old find a new home in January, United’s interest in Inter Milan’s Denzel Dumfries could quickly ramp up.
Reports out of Italy recently claimed Inter require a mid-season sale to balance the books and Netherlands international Dumfries is the man they’ve determined can go.
Dumfries plays primarily at wing-back, though is equally adept at playing as an orthodox right-back in a back four.
His attacking tendencies would suit Ten Hag down to the ground and the Dutch connection is an obvious one. Dumfries has bagged four goals and four assists for Inter this season alone.
Dumfries could cost around £26m, though Chelsea and Tottenham are also attentive to his situation. If a bidding war ensues, Football Italia reckon Inter could generate as much as €40m (approx. £34.5m).
