Man Utd eyeing loan deal as Portuguese attacker’s agent gathers interest amid openness to 2023 transfer

Matheus Cunha, Joao Felix, Atletico Madrid, October 2022

Joao Felix has his representatives looking for his potential next club, according to a report that has revealed Man Utd might be in contention to sign him.

Felix is becoming frustrated with his current situation at Atletico Madrid. He has only started five La Liga matches so far this season. As a player who cost a nine-figure sum back in 2019, he ought to be expecting more faith from his club.

There have subsequently been reports that Felix might be looking for a way out of Atletico Madrid. In that case, a few Premier League clubs might be wanting to take another look at the former Benfica starlet.

According to 90min, Felix has not directly asked Atletico Madrid to let him leave, but is ready to consider other destinations in 2023.

In fact, his agent Jorge Mendes is on the lookout for other options for Felix, who is a member of Portugal’s squad for the World Cup.

Among the interested parties for Felix are Man Utd, who are looking at how to replenish their attack following the departure of his compatriot, Cristiano Ronaldo.

At this stage, though, it seems they are only willing to make an offer to take Felix – whose contract with Atletico Madrid is due to last until 2026 – on loan.

It is not yet clear what terms the Spanish side would prefer to offload Felix on if they have to. A loan may actually suit them, since his market value has decreased from when they bought him.

Reviving his fortunes elsewhere might have the opposite effect before they could cash in.

Man Utd battling two rival suitors for Joao Felix

Man Utd is not the only destination where Felix could aim for an improvement. Other long-term admirers, the report reminds, include Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain.

Both will be capable of spending big fees if the transfer is to be a permanent one. However, they each prefer a loan deal for now as well.

It could be an interesting few months ahead to determine Felix’s future. The prospect of him playing in the Premier League remains an intriguing one.

Chelsea and Man Utd have the lowest scoring attacks of the teams in the Premier League’s top half at present. Therefore, it is easy to see why they both might want to find forwards who can take them to the next level.

Felix has scored 33 goals in 129 games for Atletico Madrid, but was more prolific with Benfica, where he managed 20 goals from 43 games.

Able to play as a supporting striker or on either wing, his versatility could prove to be useful to whoever takes him next.

But after how his Atletico Madrid venture has turned out, his representatives will be eager to ensure they are finding the right fit for him when the time comes for a change.
