Manchester United will make their first bid for Rasmus Hojlund next week (commencing July 24) in an effort to prevent PSG hijacking the deal, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Hojlund has become one of Man Utd’s top targets for the current transfer window. They are in the market for a new centre-forward after relying heavily on Marcus Rashford for goals last season.

Rashford has renewed his contract for the long term this week in a warmly welcomed development. However, there is still a belief that Man Utd need more of a target man up front.

They separated from Cristiano Ronaldo in November and subsequently had Wout Weghorst on loan for the second half of last season.

This summer, the priority has been to find a long-term focal point for their attack. Options like Victor Osimhen and Harry Kane have proved to be too expensive, which has led them to consider alternatives such as Randal Kolo Muani from Eintracht Frankfurt and Hojlund from Atalanta.

TEAMtalk exclusively reported earlier on Sunday that Hojlund is desperate to join Man Utd and is ruling out other destinations as things stand in an attempt to seal his desired move by the end of the month.

And transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has now provided the update that Man Utd will submit their ‘first official bid’ for Hojlund within the ‘next week’.

Aware that Paris Saint-Germain have also been trying to tempt Hojlund, Man Utd want to make their move now before the Ligue 1 champions can hijack their deal.

As we already shared, Romano has confirmed that Hojlund has agreed personal terms with Man Utd and is prioritising a move to Old Trafford above any other option.

Value of first Hojlund bid as yet unclear

The reporter’s latest update does not disclose how much money Man Utd may be ready to put on the table for Hojlund. There have been fears that Atalanta’s asking price will be excessive; Romano suggested somewhere between €65m (£56.2m) and €70m (£60.6m) earlier this week.

Either way, Man Utd now seem ready to test the waters for Hojlund, who only joined Atalanta last summer from Sturm Graz.

The Danish attacker has scored 10 goals from 34 games for his current club so far. While those numbers aren’t fascinating, his potential makes him a seriously intriguing prospect.

Still only 20 years old, Hojlund already averages a goal a game from his six international caps for Denmark.

His contract with Atalanta is due to last until 2027, but they will now be bracing themselves for a serious move by Man Utd.
