Man Utd, Chelsea set sights on Real Madrid star Ferland Mendy as Spanish giants name price

A report has revealed Manchester United and Chelsea are interested in signing Real Madrid’s Ferland Mendy, as well as how much the Champions League winners would ask for.
The left-back made 35 appearances in the most recent season, notching two goals and five assists. He put in some great performances as Carlo Ancelotti’s team won La Liga and then the UCL.
Mendy, along with goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, managed to prevent Mo Salah from scoring for Liverpool in the final. Vinicius Junior got in behind Trent Alexander-Arnold to score the winning goal.
The UCL triumph saw Mendy pick up another piece of silverware during his time at Real. He has won La Liga twice, as well as the Spanish super cup on two occasions, since joining Los Blancos in July 2019.
Despite the Frenchman enjoying a top campaign, as well as fellow left-back Marcelo leaving, a report claims Real will allow him to move on this summer.
Spanish source Defensa Central, who cite AS, claim Real have put Mendy up for sale.
They think Ancelotti, or his potential managerial successor, will use David Alaba on the left side of defence next term.
If this were the case, then there wouldn’t be as much need for Mendy. And Real would accept bids worth £43.3million for the seven-cap international.
Man Utd, Chelsea linked with Ferland Mendy move
This is very similar to what they paid Lyon for him three years ago. So the report is suggesting Real don’t care about making a profit on the defender.
The outlet states Manchester United, Chelsea and Juventus all like Mendy and could move for him now the transfer window is back open.
However, it doesn’t provide any information about how serious the interest is or when negotiations may begin.
Erik ten Hag will start pre-season with Luke Shaw and Alex Telles as his options at left-back. Mendy would be a solid improvement, although the Red Devils are focusing on a deal for Frenkie de Jong right now.
Chelsea may need a new left wing-back this summer as Marcos Alonso is keen to join Barcelona. Once again, Mendy would be a great option as he would likely excel in the Premier League.
But this report has to be taken with a pinch of salt. With Marcelo leaving, it’s hard to imagine Real letting Mendy go as well and leaving Ancelotti short at left-back.
Plus, Alaba mainly operates as a centre-half for Real, so we cannot imagine Ancelotti asking him to play every match as a full-back next season.
Meanwhile, Nemanja Matic has spoken after confirming his decision to join Roma on a free transfer from United.
