Man Utd attacking target labelled ‘a phenomenon’ by Premier League star but Barcelona, Real Madrid also lurking

Endrick Palmeiras

Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus has described Manchester United transfer target Endrick as a ‘phenomenon’ after watching the teenager train with his old club Palmeiras.

The 16-year-old forward is currently one of the most coveted youngsters in world football and has caught the attention of United, as well as Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona.

His agent Frederico Pena admitted earlier this week that it was too soon to discuss where his talented client could end up playing. Indeed, he will not even be allowed to leave Brazil until after his 18th birthday.

“‘The international break is always the same, there’s no news and this ‘froth’ starts,” Pena told ESPN. “Every club in the world is interested in Endrick.

“All of them! Which is the most normal thing in the world. With his quality, his youth…

“But none of them have made any proposal to us or Palmeiras to buy him. He has to play for Palmeiras until he turns 18. Consequently, he’ll play at Palmeiras for at least 22 more months.

Clubs facing Endrick wait

Endrick’s contract with Palmeiras runs until July 2025… He can only move abroad from Brazil from July 2024.

“No player under the age of 18 can move abroad. He can be sold, but he cannot be transferred.

“In other words, a club comes here, they do a deal with Palmeiras. But he can’t leave. He has to stay at Palmeiras even though he’s already been sold.”

Despite those comments, clubs are still lining up to get a head start on a deal for the player. And whoever eventually wins the race, Jesus claims they will get a generational talent.

He told ESPN Brazil: “I saw Endrick when I was training with Palmeiras for few days… and I said: wow, crack, fenomeno! He’s only 15 and he has top skills like a professional.

“I’m supporting Endrick, he’s a top talent. He will need time.”

United continue hunt for top young talent

United have made a habit of trying to bring in some of the best young talent from across the globe in recent seasons.

However, it’s not exactly worked out for them so far, with the club having to splash out over £200million for new boss Erik ten Hag over the summer to improve his squad.

Facundo Pellistri and Amad Diallo are two such players who have arrived in recent times with big expectations.

However, both have been loaned out, with Diallo currently at Sunderland. Indeed, between the two of them they have made nine appearances for the first team – all of them coming from Diallo.

As for Endrick, it appears to be a wait-and-see approach, given the forward’s young age.

Red Devils chiefs are sure to keep monitoring his progress, however, to make sure they remain in the running.

United are back in Premier League action on Sunday when they take on City in the derby.

A win at The Etihad will see Ten Hag’s men move to within two points of their bitter rivals in the table.
