Man Utd outcast Donny van de Beek has reportedly changed his agent as he looks to secure a January transfer away from Old Trafford.
The central midfielder joined the Red Devils for £35m but has never really been given a chance to impress. His first season was mainly made up of late cameos and appearances in cup competitions.
It was hoped that the playmaker would be given more game time during 2021-22. But after nine rounds of Premier League matches he has featured for just six minutes.
It’s no surprise therefore that cameras have caught him looking infuriated in the dug-out. Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer continues to play either Paul Pogba or Bruno Fernandes in central attacking midfield.
Clearly feeling like his defence needs protection, the Norwegian rarely puts van de Beek in central midfield either.
Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano provided an update on the Dutchman’s situation last week. He tweeted that there was a ‘big chance’ the player would leave Man Utd on loan in January.
Van de Beek then took action by informing his agent, Guido Albers, that he wanted a transfer. But reports coming out of the Netherlands provide a new, surprising claim.
Well-respected outlet De Telegraaf, as cited by the Metro, write that van de Beek has parted with Albers.
He is now working with Ali Dursun of HCM Sports Management, who represents Barcelona star and van de Beek’s former Ajax team-mate Frenkie De Jong.
Dursun will aim to engineer a temporary switch for the 24-year-old. One potential destination is Everton. Their director, Marcel Brands, revealed earlier this month that the Toffees had tried to sign van be Beek during the summer window.
They had been unsuccessful as Man Utd were keen to retain his services for the start of the campaign. But the player’s situation hasn’t changed and a move is highly likely when the transfer market re-opens.
Scholes in brutal assessment of Man Utd ace
Man Utd legend Paul Scholes has slammed Paul Pogba after the Frenchman was sent off against Liverpool.
The star came on at half-time when the score was 4-0 in Liverpool’s favour. But he was partly at fault for a fifth goal and went on to get dismissed soon afterwards.
Scholes told Premier League Productions: “Paul Pogba coming on to the pitch at half-time to try to help the team and maybe get a little respectability, tries to stand on the ball, tries to show how strong he is in the middle of the pitch… gives the goal away.
“Then later on gets sent off with a ridiculous tackle, now you’re 5-0 down with 10 men. You’d have to think, if Ole’s still a manager there, will we see Pogba again in a United shirt?
“He’s caused mayhem over the last couple of years. Everyone knows what a talent he is. Everybody trusts him, every manager trusts him, tried to give him his head and let him be the player he’s been.
“But with all the commotion, not signing his contract, almost holding the club to ransom. And then he comes on and does something like that. It’s not Ole’s fault, don’t get me wrong. But that’s part of it that almost summed the United performance up today.”
