Gary Neville reveals price Man Utd would be delighted to pay when signing world-class Tottenham forward

Harry Kane and Son Heung-min of Tottenham

Gary Neville has discussed the transfer plans of his beloved Manchester United and how much money they could put on the table for Harry Kane this summer.

Kane’s Tottenham contract expires at the end of the 2023-24 season. This has led to uncertainty regarding his future at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with Man Utd among the clubs expected to make contact about a potential deal.

Erik ten Hag will need a new centre-forward once Wout Weghorst returns to Burnley at the end of the campaign.

Kane broke his silence on the contract situation recently, saying on January 24: “There’s not been much talk if I’m totally honest.

“I’m sure they’ll be conversations over the coming months but to be honest I’m just focused on this season and doing my best for the team.

“There’s still a lot to play for: trying to get in the Champions League, we have the FA Cup and the Champions League still to try to win. My focus is on that.

“I know there’s going to be rumours, a lot of talk and speculation about my future but I’m just focused on what I can do.

“Of course I still want to win trophies for Tottenham Hotspur. That’s been my goal since I started playing first-team football with them. It hasn’t happened. I’ve been open about [how I feel about] that but I’ll continue to try to achieve that.

“We have a really good squad, a fantastic manager and there’s no reason why we still can’t be successful this season. We’ve just got to put everything we can into it and see where we are come May.”

It seems the England captain is preparing to pledge his future to Spurs and reject Man Utd’s advances.

However, the contract is still yet to go through. And Man Utd will hold hope about capturing him until it is announced.

During an appearance on The Overlap, Neville has spoken about Man Utd’s need for a new goalscorer to lead their forward line.

The Sky Sports pundit reckons Man Utd would be more than happy to break their £89million transfer record and spend £100m on Kane, if such an opportunity presented itself.

“How many years has he got left on that 26-year deal that he signed?!” Neville joked (via Manchester Evening News).

“Is it two years? He’s not got one [year left, at the end of the season] has he?!

“I think if you said to Manchester United right now with the fact that they’ve got no centre-forward at all hardly; ‘£100m for Harry Kane?’ they would snap your hands off. If you said to United now £100m for Harry Kane they would snap your hands off.”

Neville is right about Man Utd being delighted with signing Kane for £100m. Unfortunately, there is no indication Spurs chairman Daniel Levy will change his stance.

He told Manchester City it would take £150m to prize the 29-year-old away from Spurs in 2021, and Levy still believes he is worth this much.

As such, the Red Devils may have to turn their attention to a striker shining in Europe. But competition will emerge from serial spenders Chelsea.
