Gary Neville takes exception to Mino Raiola’s Man Utd dig over Erling Haaland transfer

Erling Haaland big, powerful, Borussia Dortmund training

The possibility of an Erling Haaland transfer to Manchester United have been ruled out by Mino Raiola – but his claims have received a spiky response by Gary Neville.

The Borussia Dortmund striker is one of the world’s most-sought after players following his incredible record in Germany. Indeed, the Norwegian boasts 74 goals in 73 appearances since signing for them almost two years ago.

However, with a €75m release clause coming into effect next summer, the race to sign Haaland is already well underway.

Indeed, his contract at the Westfalenstadion expires in 2024, but talk of a move away from Dortmund before then is growing. In fact, the Bundesliga club are reportedly trying to convince him to stay until 2023

All signs though point towards the exit door and Raiola has in fact listed four clubs who are all candidates to sign his client.

As such, the super-agent claims there is a “great chance” of the striker leaving in 2022. Raiola added that Manchester City, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Barcelona are the main contenders for his signature.

And with City named as his only Premier League suitors, Raiola could not resist re-opening old wounds with United.

Ralf Rangnicks bonus if he aids Manchester United in bringing in Erling Haaland

New Manchester United boss Ralf Rangnick will reportedly receive a healthy eight and a half million pound bonus, if he can help the club sign Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland, with more news on Edinson Cavani and Sergio Gomez.

“City have won the championship five times in the last few years, much more than United,” he added. “When we moved to BVB, we all knew this next step would come.”

Those comments though did not sit too with Neville.

In response, Neville tweeted: “I know we’ve been c*** recently, but Mino Raiola has wiped out all of United’s Premier League titles in one foul swoop.”

Indeed, United still hold the record of 13 Premier League titles, compared to City’s five, though last tasted success 10 seasons ago.

Erling Haaland transfer to take centre stage

It’s not just Haaland who could be on the move in 2022, with the likes of Kylian Mbappe and Harry Kane all facing uncertain futures.

City wanted a top striker signing last summer and went after Tottenham’s Harry Kane. However, after a drawn-out transfer saga, the England captain stayed put.

According to Neville, City will end their chase for Kane and instead Haaland’s future will become the “big story”. United have been linked with a move for the Norwegian, but Neville said that City look more likely to sign him.

“We know how desperately City wanted Harry Kane last summer,” the pundit told Sky Sports.

“That didn’t happen. I’m not sure they now would go back to Harry Kane next year just because of basically what happened. I think Haaland is going to be the big story.

“[Kylian] Mbappe, is he going to leave as well maybe from Paris Saint-Germain? That could be the one, the sort of big switch. He goes somewhere, Haaland goes somewhere.

“So it’s going to be a big summer this year in terms of transfers and I suspect City will be, not desperate for him because City don’t do desperate business.

“They’ll be very keen to bring him and it would be another special player in the Premier League.”
