Man Utd handed double boost in Kylian Mbappe hunt with star urged to ditch PSG and replacement already identified

Manchester United appear to have a much better chance at landing Kylian Mbappe from Paris Saint-Germain after Jamie Carragher explained why the forward must find a new club, with the Ligue 1 side also sounding out potential replacements.
Mbappe has scored an incredible 201 goals in 248 matches for PSG. He became the club’s all-time record scorer at the weekend, surpassing Edinson Cavani’s 200-goal tally. The 24-year-old has helped PSG to win four league titles, three French cups and three French super cups.
However, they have never been able to win the Champions League, which is their biggest aim. Bayern Munich knocked them out in the round of 16 on Wednesday night. They won 2-0 in Germany to secure a 3-0 aggregate victory.
The defeat will leave Mbappe wondering what it will take for PSG to win the esteemed competition. If they cannot triumph with Mbappe, Lionel Messi, Neymar and Achraf Hakimi in the squad, will they ever do it?
Man Utd are viewed as one potential destination, should the France international opt to leave PSG. However, they will only be able to compete with Real Madrid for his signature if their big-money takeover goes through.
Carragher has given Man Utd a transfer lift by labelling PSG’s UCL exploits ‘a joke’ and urging Mbappe to depart.
“You can lose to Bayern Munich, of course you can, a big name was always going to go out,” the pundit said during an appearance on CBS Sports (via Goal). “But to be involved how long they’ve had Qatari ownership, state ownership, more money than anyone else in the world, buying the best players… to go out five times in the last 16 is a joke. It really is.
“There’s a lot of criticism at times for Liverpool’s ownership. They need someone with more money, they need the Qataris to come in. It doesn’t mean anything if there’s no expertise with what you’re doing.
Mbappe ‘has got to leave PSG’, says Jamie Carragher
“I’ve said before about Kylian Mbappe, he’s got to leave. They’re nowhere near winning the Champions League. I don’t think it’s going to get better next season if that squad stays. I just think the quicker he’s at Real Madrid the better.”
Man Utd fans will be disappointed to hear Carragher telling Mbappe to join Real instead. But overall the fact the attacker is being told to leave PSG is a boost for the Red Devils, as it means they at least have a chance of completing a monumental deal for him.
In more good news for Man Utd, PSG seem to be preparing for life without Mbappe. As per Italian source Tuttomercatoweb, the agent of Napoli ace Victor Osimhen, Roberto Calenda, has met with officials at PSG to discuss a potential move to the Parc des Princes.
The meeting took place last week and happened without Napoli’s prior knowledge, the report claims.
While Osimhen wants to play in the Premier League in the future, a move to PSG could happen first. Calenda and PSG director Luis Campos know each other from the latter’s time at Lille. They worked together on the deal which took Osimhen to Napoli in September 2020.
Man Utd will view PSG’s interest in Osimhen as a hint they are willing to part with Mbappe in the near future. To make matters even more interesting, Osimhen is also on Man Utd’s list of potential striker signings.
Meanwhile, Man Utd are in ‘advanced talks’ over a new contract for one of their regular starters, according to a report.
