Manchester United receive lucrative bid from Spanish side for star who already has multiple suitors

Hannibal Mejbri, Manchester United, February 2022

Manchester United have reportedly received a loan offer with an option to buy, for youngster Hannibal Mejbri, from Spanish side FC Andorra.

Mejbri has experienced a small amount of first-team football with United. Indeed, he made his debut two seasons ago, and played twice at the back end of last season’s Premier League campaign.

It seems he still has a long way to go until he fully breaks into the side. As such, manager Erik ten Hag is willing to send him out on loan, in order to gain experience.

Three Championship clubs have reportedly approached United for his services previously. Indeed, those reports surfaced early in August.

However, a move away has not materialised as yet.

Another club has now thrown their hat into the ring, too. L’Equipe reports that Spanish La Liga 2 side FC Andorra have made an offer for Mejbri.

The offer is reportedly to take him on loan, with an option to buy. The report states that that option is of  €25million (approx £21million).

The option would to buy would automatically be triggered, if FC Andorra were to be promoted to La Liga. Given the club have made their way from the fifth to the second-tier of Spanish football under the ownership of Gerard Pique, another promotion could well happen.

However, it remains to be seen whether United would agree to the deal.

United may not be keen on Mejbri offer

A loan, in order to gain some experience, seems a good career move for Mejbri. Indeed, the 19-year-old has not played a lot of senior football.

However, United may not be keen on the offer from FC Andorra for one reason. That reason being that they likely want to keep Mejbri on their books for the future, and do not want another club to have the opportunity to take him away.

As such, a loan without the obligation to buy may be more well suited.

What’s more, loaning Mejbri to a side in England may be more beneficial. The Tunisia international could get a proper taste of senior football, in a league that is more similar to the Premier League than the second tier in Spain would be.
