Harry Kane latest: Man Utd given renewed cause for optimism as major reason emerges for Real Madrid snub

Harry Kane and Erling Haaland, Tottenham vs Man City

Harry Kane is reportedly set to snub Real Madrid and remain in England as Manchester United continue to be linked with the Tottenham striker.

The 29-year-old has just completed yet another superb campaign for Spurs, bagging 30 Premier League goals. The England captain started all 38 of the north Londoners’ top-flight contests, playing 49 times overall and scoring 32 goals. It is obvious how important he is, having been the standout player in an underwhelming campaign for the club.

They finished down in eighth spot, missing out on European football after losing 14 league games.

Attention has now turned to Kane’s future, as it has during many summers in recent years.

England’s all-time leading goalscorer has just one year left on his current deal.

That is a red flag for Spurs bosses, who will not want him to run down his contract and leave for nothing next summer.

That is highly unlikely to happen but the capital outfit need to move quickly.

United have been linked with a move, while Real are also thought to hold an interest.

And with Karim Benzema leaving the Bernabeu, Carlo Ancelotti is very much in the market for a new hitman.

Los Blancos have been linked with Kane, who continues to shine in front of goal for both club and country.

He did try to engineer a move away from Spurs a few years ago, only to see Daniel Levy put a stop to proceedings. But the time may now be right to try a new challenge.

Kane has motive to stay in England

The lure of playing for Real is tough for any player to refuse and there is no question that the Madrid fans would love to see him in their colours.

But it seems as though it may not happen. According to talkSPORT, Kane wants to stay in the English top flight and will snub a move overseas.

That is because he wants to break Alan Shearer’s record of 260 Premier League goals.

The Walthamstow-born hotshot has 213 to his name and might only need two more seasons to achieve that feat.

The news, if true, is music to the ears of Red Devils chief Erik ten Hag, who is targeting a top-class striker this off-season.

Manchester United want Kane and it has been claimed that the Old Trafford giants are the only club that he wants to join.

As ever, the stumbling block may well be Levy. He is reluctant to sell the superstar to a direct Premier League rival.

There is also the issue of his transfer fee, with rumours that spurs will demand in excess of £100m for their skipper.

It seems unlikely that Levy would sanction Kane’s exit for anything less than that figure.

Whether United would pay that much is open to debate. But reports over the weekend state that Ancelotti has pleaded with the Real hierarchy to go all out to sign the Englishman.

Kane has been an unbelievable player for Spurs for more than a decade but has nothing tangible to show for his efforts.

Moving to either United or Real would give him a much better chance of winning silverware. But only one of those clubs will allow him to dethrone Shearer.
