Jadon Sancho to Chelsea talk heats up with Man Utd linked with swap and details of Ten Hag decision emerge

Manchester United are reportedly growing increasingly open to the possible departure of Jadon Sancho in January amid claims a Chelsea star could move as part of a swap deal.

Sancho has endured a frustrating time since moving to Old Trafford in a £73m deal. The Red Devils chased him for the best part of two and a half years before finally persuading Borussia Dortmund to sell. But the winger has struggled to replicate his sensational form in Germany during his 18 months at the club.

Such has been his drop-off in form that Sancho has lost his place in the England squad. He was a big part of their squad that reached the final of Euro 202o just 18 months ago. But his inconsistent form since signing for United means he’s had to watch England’s World Cup adventures from home.

As a result, a report on Wednesday suggested the unhappy star has had his head turned by a possible escape route to Chelsea.

And while the star remains a part of Erik ten Hag’s plans, the winger was left behind to work on a specialist fitness program as his teammates embarked on a tour of Spain in preparation for the season’s resumption.

Ten Hag, ideally, would like Sancho to remain at Old Trafford. With Cristiano Ronaldo having departed, Sancho could be one such star to benefit.

However, were he to push to leave, it’s claimed that Ten Hag would not stand in his way. And any money generated from his sale would go straight back into the club’s transfer coffers.

Now Football365 have raised the possibility of  a potential swap deal with Chelsea. Citing United’s interest in unwanted Chelsea winger Christian Pulisic, they suggest a swap deal could be on the cards.

Pulisic has also struggled for game-time at Stamford Bridge since his own move from Dortmund. As a result, he is reportedly available for a move in January with Newcastle and United among those reportedly keen.

And with Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly seemingly willing to sanction his departure, reports are growing that an eye-catching trade with United could be on the cards.

Meanwhile, Ten Hag’s decision not to take Sancho on their trip to Spain has been clarified.

With some members of United’s squad still on World Cup duty, those eliminated have been given a short period off. Those that remain have been called up on a tour to Spain for a training camp. That group, though, did not include Sancho.

And instead of taking the winger to Spain, United instead sent him on a ‘personalised training program’ to the Netherlands.

In his absence, United opened their tour with a 4-2 defeat to lowly Cadiz with Ten Hag accusing his players of ‘not being awake’.

Some have speculated that Sancho’s absence in Spain could spell bad news for his chances of getting into Ten Hag’s side.

However, The Sun claims Sancho will link back up with his teammates upon their return at their Carrington training complex.

They claim Ten Hag still sees promise in Sancho for United. And the boss will hope the program can lead to some improved displays for his winger in the coming weeks.

United resume their season with a Carabao Cup tie against Burnley on Wednesday December 21.
