Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Kouadio Kone battling Bayern Munich star Marcelo Sabitzer

Keep up to date with all the Manchester United transfer news and speculation during the January transfer window.

United enjoyed a fruitful summer transfer window, with Erik ten Hag spending well in excess of £200m to reshape his squad.

United made a slow start to the new season, losing their first two games, including an embarrassing loss at Brentford, but an unexpected and most welcome win over Liverpool in Ten Hag’s third game kickstarted a vast improvement.

They have now moved into the top four but are still looking to improve the squad. And with the January window now open, we take a look at all the players United are being linked with and who the original source of the story is.

The summer transfer window officially closed at 11pm, Thursday 1 September, with this list featuring any transfer line with regards incomings and outgoing at Old Trafford since then…

Frenkie de Jong

United were heavily linked with De Jong throughout the summer transfer window and reportedly agreed a deal with Barcelona.

While the move didn’t materialise, the transfer rumour mill hasn’t stopped and we’ve rounded up the latest major news about the midfielder.

– Ten Hag has discussed a second approach for De Jong. He is emboldened by Barcelona’s ongoing financial uncertainty and the midfielder’s assurance he would have joined United but for the obstacle of his wage deferral. (Manchester Evening News, January 30).

– De Jong has had a conversation with Erik ten Hag, when he stated he is now in favour of the switch to Old Trafford. (Fichajes, January 1).

– Ten Hag will once again try and persuade De Jong to move to Old Trafford in 2023 and believes he can lure him to the club. (The Sun, December 17).

A January move for De Jong is almost impossible while a summer move depends on the midfielder. (Fabrizio Romano, November 28).

Barcelona are still willing to sell De Jong and an ‘astronomical’ bid from United will likely be accepted. (Sport, November 21).

The Netherlands interntional has revealed that he wants to stay at Barcelona for the next 10 years. (De Telegraaf, November 20).

De Jong has decided against leaving Barcelona if anyone comes calling in the January transfer window. (Sport, October 30).

– United are still interested in the midfielder but Chelsea and Liverpool are also exploring a possible deal. (ESPN, October 21).

– Ten Hag is begging United chiefs to launch a fresh bid to sign Se Jong in January and believes a deal will happen this time. (Sport, October 20).

Jude Bellingham

Bellingham has become one of the most sought-after players in the world and we’ve rounded up rumours linking him with United.

United are still in the race for Bellingham’s signature and will throw the kitchen sink at a potential deal. (Luke Edwards, January 6).

– Ten Hag is insisting that United get into the fight for Bellingham’s signature next summer. (The Sun, December 17).

– United are out of the race for Bellingham and don’t stand a chance at this point. (Florian Plettenberg, December 6).

– United’s chances of signing Bellingham are low due to financial fair play factors as well as the competition from Liverpool and Manchester City. (Florian Plettenberg, November 8).

– The Borussia Dortmund midfielder has become Erik ten Hag’s top transfer target, replacing De Jong. (Daily Mirror, November 3).

His representatives have been monitoring United and Liverpool closely to determine where the midfielder would fit best. (The Independent, October 10).
