Manchester United look increasingly unlikely to win the Jude Bellingham transfer race after a trusted source revealed the surprise factors why a move to Old Trafford looks unlikely, having also named the club who are ‘very optimisic’ of sealing his signature.
The England midfielder finds himself in huge demand after a sparkling rise to the top of his game. Despite his tender years, the 19-year-old is already regarded as one of the most complete midfielders of his generation.
He has already clocked up 110 appearances for Borussia Dortmund since a bargain £25m move from Birmingham in 2020. And this season, playing in an advanced midfield role, he has amassed nine goals and two assists from 19 appearances.
Understandably, competition to sign Bellingham is extremely high. A plethora of European football’s big hitters are all hot on his trail, including Real Madrid. However, TEAMtalk exclusively revealed how one Chelsea are now ruled out the race.
That effetively leaves Los Blancos, Manchester United, Manchester City and Liverpool to slug it out over his signature.
And while he would cost in excess of £100m – some reports claim his fee may reach £130m (€150m) – there appears a growing optimism that Liverpool will win that chase.
Indeed, with FSG putting the club up for sale, Tuesday’s Transfer Gossip claims their American owners will sign Bellingham as a ‘parting gift’.
And having overseen one of the club’s most-successful ever era, that would be some way to bow out.
Of course, there is a long way to go until FSG find a buyer, let alone part ways with their shareholding in the Reds. And with FSG reportedly seeking around £4bn for the Reds, that is a process that will need carefully managing.
Man Utd see Jude Bellingham hopes take nosedive
As far as Bellingham is concerned, though, one trusted source reckons Liverpool are ‘very optimisic’ of sealing the deal.
Furthermore, Sky Deutschsland reporter, Florian Plettenberg, claims financial factors are likely to see Manchester United drop from the race.
Tweeting about Bellingham’s future, Plettenberg has confirmed that Bellingham has been watched intensely by Manchester United scouts, but financial fair play factors are likely to see their hopes ruined.
United spent in excess of £200m in summer 2022 and cannot keep that momentum going without generating some sales first.
‘Bellingham. He’s the transfer target No. 1 for #MUFC confirmed! They expect him to cost around €150m, they have scouted him a lot. Ten Hag wants him in 2023! But: Chances are low due to competition from #MCFC and #LFC and due to Financial Fairplay!’
Liverpool in transfer control
His second tweet then read: ‘On the other hand #LFC is very optimistic to get him in 2023! He’s is also the main target, Klopp is pushing for him & Liverpool wants to invest in summer. They expect him to cost €100m + X. Hardly any chances: PSG, Barca, Bayern
News that Liverpool are the favourites for his signature will not be well received in Manchester. United missed out on his signing back in 2020 when he opted to sign for Dortmund upon leaving Birmingham.
Missing out on him a second time would certainly come as another major blow. A report recently named Bellingham as Ten Hag’s No 1 target of 2023, usurping Frenkie de Jong.
And to see him wind up at Liverpool would add salt into United’s wounds.
