Juventus make unusual Paul Pogba request as second suitor threatens to derail Man Utd move

Man Utd midfielder Paul Pogba

Juventus are prepared to make their move for Man Utd midfielder Paul Pogba, though a report has revealed their fears have resulted in an unusual request being made.

The Frenchman, 29, is poised to leave Old Trafford as a free agent this summer. Pogba has always been an elite performer on the international stage with France, though his form at club level with Manchester United can only be described as patchy at best.

Pogba is one of a cluster of stars that will depart United before incoming boss Erik ten Hag takes charge. Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata and Edinson Cavani will also leave as free agents. Nemanja Matic too will be allowed to leave for nothing.

The Mirror recently claimed Juventus are the frontrunners to bring Pogba on board. Pogba played in Turin between 2012-16 and is reportedly remembered fondly by the decision-makers at Juve.

Now, Goal shed new light on the situation and claim Juventus will make their approach next week.

Talks with Pogba’s camp are due to be opened and it’s stated they’ll ‘pull out all the stops’ to make a deal happen.

However, as the Mirror previously indicated, Pogba may have to take a significant pay-cut to return to Turin.

He reportedly pockets around £350,000-a-week at United. The Mirror previously stated Juve might only be able to offer around half that amount.

Paul Pogba will have to take a huge pay cut if he wants to return to Juventus

Manchester United’s Paul Pogba will reportedly have to take a sizeable pay cut if he wants to rejoin Juventus this summer.

However, aside from the financial aspect, Juventus may have bigger problems to contend with.

Goal add competition is expected to come from French powerhouse PSG. And because of that, Juventus have reportedly requested Pogba keep them informed of any and all proposals he receives from would-be suitors.

It’s noted Juve are particularly concerned about PSG’s presence in the transfer race. However, they are hopeful their prior connections with Pogba will aid their cause.

Who should replace Pogba at Man Utd?

With Matic also departing, Ten Hag’s midfield will look a whole lot different to the one Ralf Rangnick has fielded.

Fred and Scott McTominay will be retained, while James Garner may be given an opportunity to shine after impressing with Nottingham Forest on loan.

However, at least one world class addition must be made and all the signs point towards Frenkie de Jong.

The classy Dutchman is known to Ten Hag through their shared time at Ajax. That should rule out the possibility of another Donny van de Beek repeat.

Moves for the likes of Kalvin Phillips and Declan Rice have been touted. But Rice will cost upwards of £100m and unless Leeds get relegated, the chances of Phillips leaving his boyhood club appear slim.

De Jong would bring a measure of control to United’s midfield, something they have lacked in recent years.
