Kylian Mbappe responds to colossal Man Utd transfer claims with biggest indicator yet over PSG future

Paris St Germain's Kylian Mbappe is embraced by Manchester United's Marcus Rashford after the Champions League round of 16 clash between PSG and Manchester United

Kylian Mbappe has revealed his intentions for this summer’s transfer window amid claims the striker will be tempted away from PSG by either Manchester United or Real Madrid.

The 24-year-old forward has this weekend become PSG’s all-time top goalscorer having netted a 201st goal for the club in just 247 appearances. And having also scored a hat-trick in the World Cup final earlier this season, demand for Mbappe has perhaps never been higher.

Indeed, speculation over Mbappe’s future is rarely far from the news. This time last year, speculation was gathering pace that a summer exit from PSG was very much on the cards. At the time, that arrangement only had a few months left to run, leaving Mbappe to potentially become the most highly-sought after free transfer of all time.

As such, a switch to long-term suitors Real Madrid was expected to go through. The Spanish giants had seen a huge £159m (€180m) offer for his services rejected by the French giants just a few months prior.

However, the France star opted to stay at PSG, signing a new deal to 2025 worth an eye-watering £700,000 a week.

Despite committing his future to the French capital, Mbappe continues to be linked with moves away.

Indeed, those rumours first began to swirl again earlier this season with Fabrizio Romano revealing he wants out at PSG “as soon as possible”.

Man Utd target Mbappe responds to PSG exit rumours

A further look into that new deal he signed also reveals why an exit looks possible this summer.

Indeed, Mbappe’s deal is actually only for an intial two years with the third year actually a player option. As a result, Mbappe will entering the final 12 months of his contract again this summer.

But as well as the long-term presence of Real lurking, Manchester United have also recently been linked with a blockbuster move.

Indeed, with speculation mounting about a Qatari-led takeover at Old Trafford, United could soon have the resources needed to fund such a move.

Furthermore, Mbappe seemingly fueled those rumours with a cryptic seven-word message on the subject.

However, after netting his 30th goal of the season to become PSG’s all-time leading scorer, Mbappe has given the strongest indication yet over his future.

And rather than pushing for a move away, Mbappe is putting a straight bat to claims he is looking to leave PSG.

“It’s a privilege to play here. I’m from Paris and being at PSG is special. I arrived very young and I have grown and matured, both on and off the field,” he said.

“If it depended on what happens in the Champions League – and I don’t want to disrespect anyone – I would have already left!”

Mbappe transfer speculation ends – for now at least

Mbappe continued: “I’m here and very happy. At the moment I don’t think about anything other than making PSG happy.”

Those comments appear to have ended the debate, for now at least, that Mbappe will make a colossal transfer this summer.

Of course, the situation could change again before the summer window officially opens for business.

But for now it appears any side wanting to sign Mbappe faces an extremely tall order. Talking PSG into his sale is one thing; now it seems that convincing Mbappe to move as well looks a tough task.
