Kylian Mbappe transfer to Man Utd hint dropped by Rio Ferdinand as Jamie Carragher sends Liverpool blunt message on deal

Kylian Mbappe, Lionel Messi PSG

Rio Ferdinand has tellingly teased that Manchester United may be about to enter the race to sign Kylian Mbappe amid claims the forward is pushing to leave Paris Saint-Germain – but Jamie Carragher is adamant that Liverpool must stay clear.

Reports that the 23-year-old World Cup winner wants out at PSG following a massive falling out have sent shockwaves round football. he was the subject of intense speculation last season with his deal at the French giants nearing an end. But despite strong speculation linking with him a move to Real Madrid, Mbappe ultimately stayed following the offer of a huge new contract in Paris.

That deal – tying him to the Parc des Princes until 2025 – is reportedly worth a staggering £600,000 per week.

However, just months into the renewal, Mbappe’s future is the subject of intense speculation once again. That comes amid massive claims in France that Mbappe has fallen out with several players at the club, including Neymar.

And while PSG are playing down reports of his unhappiness, speculation over where he will end up next is already underway.

Indeed, this article looks at six possible clubs Mbappe may move to next.

Of course, Real Madrid are likely to lead that charge. However, reports in France indicate that PSG are opposed to his move to the Spanish champions.

And should that prove the case, that leaves open the strong possibility of a move to the Premier League. As a result, many people believe a move to Liverpool looks the most likely.

Jurgen Klopp has spoken of his admiration for Mbappe in the past, with the club once holding talks with the player.

And the feeling is clearly mutual, with Mbappe taking the chance to publicly flirt with Liverpool over the years.

Jamie Carragher warns Liverpool to stay well clear

However, pundits Thierry Henry and Jamie Carragher have questioned the player’s attitude – and the latter certainly wants Liverpool to stay well clear.

Speaking on CBS Sports Golazo, Henry said: “We know he doesn’t like it [his current position in the team]. Nobody likes to be exposed to what you’re not good at, but there is something bigger than anybody else: the club.

“Did they [PSG] make him feel that the club was the most important thing or did they make him feel that he was more important than the club? For me, I will use my own experience and stories, I didn’t like to play high and wide at Barcelona, I hated it. But, I had to do it for the team.

“I didn’t like after how many goals I scored for France and how many caps I had, that I had to go and play on the left. I always remember the one rule though, if the boss asks you to do something, you do it for the good of the team. Your team is winning! If your team is losing, I would’ve understood it [wanting to leave].”

Carragher said: “It felt like over the summer they didn’t make him the star of the team, it was almost like he became the director of football. It was like he was choosing the coach, choosing the players, do you think they gave him too much power?

“We’ve all been there as players [playing in an unfavoured position] and at times you do have to do it for the team, it’s how long it lasts really. The thing I have is; why is it coming out now? You’ve got a Champions League game to deal with!

“We all love Mbappe, he’s amazing. But there’s too much ego, power, for a young player and I think as Thierry said, someone needs to just tell him ‘no’.”

Rio Ferdinand drops Kylian Mbappe to Man Utd transfer hint

Despite Carragher’s words of warning, Rio Ferdinand has joked about Kylian Mbappe to Man Utd.

The Red Devils are likely to come up in the conversations around Mbappe’s next club. And while Erik ten Hag’s side are currently below the level Mbappe would want to play at, they are perhaps one of the few clubs in the world who could finance such a deal.

Posting a GIF of himself hugging the 23-year-old on Twitter on Tuesday night, Ferdinand captioned the post: “Done Deal #AgentFerdy.”

The suggestion being that he will convince Mbappe to make the move to Old Trafford when the transfer window opens. And while the suggestion is tongue in cheek, it would not be the first time Ferdinand has influenced a big-money Man Utd signing.

Indeed, Ferdinand is said to have been a big influence on Raphael Varane’s decision to quit Real Madrid for United in summer 2021.

The pundit was also reportedly a factor in Cristiano Ronaldo’s decision to snub Manchester City and the 11th hour and instead re-sign for United.

As such, while he may only be joking about a potential deal at this stage, don’t be shocked if the tweet is part of a more calculated campaign from Ferdinand.

Mbappe has scored 12 goals in all competitions so far this season for PSG. And after starting and scoring against Benfica on Tuesday night, he is now the club’s all-time leading goalscorer in Champions League history.
