Man Utd legend makes big hint Ten Hag will snub Harry Kane to sign lethal 26-goal striker, with Tottenham ace facing bleak future

Tottenham Hotspur's Harry Kane looks dejected after the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 2nd Leg match between Tottenham Hotspur and AC Milan in London

Former Manchester United defender Nemanja Vidic has given his verdict on the club’s pursuit of a new striker, with Erik ten Hag urged to avoid Harry Kane and bring in a younger goalscorer instead.

Links between Kane and Man Utd have begun to heat up recently. The Red Devils have opened preliminary talks with Tottenham to see if Kane will be available for transfer this summer and how much he might cost.

As per The Sun, Man Utd have also come up with a huge £300,000-a-week contract offer to hand Kane, should they reach an agreement over his transfer with Tottenham.

Tottenham, as in every previous transfer window, are hopeful of keeping their talisman no matter what bids come in. However, it is becoming increasingly difficult to show Kane that the club is on the right path following the terrible 6-1 defeat at Newcastle and the subsequent sacking of interim boss Cristian Stellini.

During an appearance on Rio Ferdinand’s Vibe with Five YouTube channel, five-time Premier League champion Vidic was asked what he thinks of the Kane to Man Utd links.

The former defender replied: “I will not buy the striker if I am not sure, 100 per cent. For how much money? How old is he? He is a top striker for the last 10 years and he will score the goals but definitely I will go for other options.

“Whatever other options, I will go for other options. There is a way to have a striker for many years. The club has to think for many years, have to find players who are 23, 24, they are going to stay there for seven years. Especially in the heart of the team.”

Vidic does not specifically name an alternative to Kane. But the main forward Man Utd are considering if they cannot get Kane is Victor Osimhen.

Nemanja Vidic suggests Serie A star over Kane

The Nigeria international has simply been unstoppable this term, having scored 26 goals in 32 matches to help Napoli reach the Champions League quarter-finals and put themselves on the verge of winning the Serie A title.

But lifting the league crown with Napoli might be the last thing Osimhen does in Italy. Ten Hag rates him very highly and will tell Man Utd chiefs to submit a £100m-plus offer if Kane proves to be unattainable.

While Vidic does not name Osimhen, it is likely he was thinking of the striker when making those comments without trying to add fuel to the fire. After all, Osimhen is five years younger than Kane at 24.

Due to this, Man Utd would potentially get much better value for money when signing the Serie A star as they could rely on him for at least seven or eight seasons.

While Kane loves Spurs, it would not be great for his career if he stayed there. The only achievement he could go for is the all-time Prem scoring record, as Spurs are way off winning any trophies currently.

There will be plenty of twists and turns before Man Utd manage to get a world-class striker through the door this summer. But what is certain is that Ten Hag will push hard for such a player to arrive.

He has sacrificed the capture of a top-class goalkeeper in order to prioritise new arrivals up front and in midfield. According to 90Min, Man Utd will instead hand David de Gea a new deal before trying to land a shot-stopper in summer 2024.

Meanwhile, a top midfielder has spoken about his situation amid interest from Man Utd and Liverpool.
